Buy a fuel efficient car and get punished with taxes.

Would you be happy if they raised your income tax to cover the amount? It would make no difference. You're still paying the same amount overall, just more in one area and less in another.

Here in Ohio over 65 cents is tax.
NO way they would let the price of gas drop 65 cents. Even if they pulled the gas tax, the oil company would keep the price the same.
It may drop for a time but will quickly even out to the national average.
