I think that riding a bike without any cars around would be very safe. It's just the other ***hole drivers that don't respect bikers and cause most of the accidents. I can control how I drive, but I can't control other jerks on the road making a mistake and smashing into my vehicle.

Having been rear ended 3 times, I'm glad I was driving a car in all of those situations.

Thats dumb. My entire family rides. Immediate and extended. Im going on 6 years of road bike experience, ive never been down. My Dads been riding since he was 17 also, hes been down once, and thats because he was showing off. None of my uncles have crashed. At least 2 times huh? My friend has been down 4 times in 5 years, twice on the track. But thats because he thinks hes invincible, and does all them jackass stunts on the road, which you are prob basing this off of. And in that case, hes only been down because of his own retardedness, not from someone on the road. ASK ANYBODY right?

I grew up riding bikes at the coast and had my fair share of crashes, as did the rest of my family excluding my mom. I don't remember her ever getting hurt on a motorcycle.

My dad has had more bad encounters on the street than you could count on both hands, which is why he does not want me riding a street bike.

I grew up riding along with my whole family... although it isn't a "fact" that you will go down twice within 5 years, it is fact that motorcycles are not treated as equals on the road. People will look right at you and still pull out in front of you, where as if you were in a H2 or something they would think different.

I stand by what I said... honestly, you're the first person I've ever heard say they or anyone of their family hasn't gone down (aside from being dumb). Consider yourselves lucky...

Interesting this topic comes up today.

After years of riding mopeds, dirt bikes, cruisers, etc. with one of my best friends. I'm in the middle of my MSF riding course.

I know how to ride. That is not why I'm doing it. Riding a sport bike is different than anything else you can ever get on. Like a Saturn to a Vette. I'm taking it because I want to know the best way to protect myself from cages while I ride my sport bike.

If you've never been on a bike, rider or passenger than you don't and will never understand why we do it. It's like a feeling of drag racing, but on a whole different level! And just like drag racing, you take a chance getting on that bike. It may never be your fault if you go down, but only the rider will have control of if you can protect yourself. Those riders that choice to showboat and stunt take bigger chances but that's how they live.

The rider has to have full control and awareness of his/her bike and surroundings at all times. Those that have a hard time driving a stick, would be shocked as to how much work goes into riding a bike. Driving only takes about 50% of your mind and motor functions. Riding takes 110% of what you have. When a riding blinks, pauses or looks the wrong way... that's when something happens.

You can't blame the cages, although yes, most of the time they are the cause for the beginnings of a bike being layed down or in an accident. The rider is still in full control to not let that happen! That is where riding right vs. wrong pays off.

I'm not going to get into that story because I've seen similar locally. We've had may riders go down in my area just this season.

If your going to ride, respect it. If you see a rider, respect them for being out there.

Yea, I totaly agree with you there. Its cool, I just didnt like the wording, sounds like you were trying to scare people away from bikes... [img]tongue.gif[/img] Now if we count dirtbikes too, then I been down like 100 times in a year, lol.

Im glad were the exception to the rule, now I just cross my fingers and hope it stays that way. :cool:
