If you boot to the CD, you can tell it to format the partition. It should be fairly obvious when you go through the menus.

That was what i tried to do was delete the partition, but it wouldnt let me, it said that partion was needed to reinstall windows.

So you saying i should make my cd-rom load before my hardrive so i can boot from cd( in bio's of course).

Right, set the bios to boot directly from the CD, that way you can format the partition.

I did a new windows install on my new comp. once it was put together, jsut inserted the xp cd & let it go at it. I even partitoned the HDD separately, 30 gig w/xp, and went back & partitioned the rest afterwards.

Make sure you delete all partitions, then create a new one. It should ask you what you want to format the new partition as, as well. Just read everything on the screen and all questions shall be answered, grasshopper!
