Right. And this is why people hate it. It is NOT a sports car, yet GM markets it like it is and people talk about it like it is the replacement for the F-Body.

And if you compare it to other high-end cars its a joke. Sorry GM, you've never known how to build a decent high-end car and you probably never will. Stick with cars for the "common man" and for old people (Buick, Oldsmobile, Caddy). GM doesn't have what it takes to make real luxury.

EDIT: Along those lines, the owners of real luxury/performance cars don't even think of ruining them by taking them to a dragstrip. Yet I'm hearing stories about GTO's being seen at tracks nationwide. Further proof that the new GTO is just a wannabe. Lame.

I don't think it rides like a sedan. Not from what I've heard, anyway. I'll let you know after I drive one.

No you're not. You're getting your finances on track and buying a house first. Priorities!

So it's not a sports car because it "rides like a sedan (debatable, neither of us has driven one to the best of my knowledge and the GTO suepension looks far superior on paper) and it doesn't look like a Trans Am?

I wanted a Vette but ended up with a Toyota. It happens.

And all that money I saved is in the bank waiting for the house downpayment, right? (Looks at the piles upon piles of new car parts and the receipt for Jenn's ring from last month.) Doh!

The original GTO never looked like an aggressive sports car, either. We only attribute those characteristics to it now, 40 years later, because we are aware of what the vehicle could do. When the Goat first came out, it was a sleeper. As for the performance aspects, I haven't read a single article in any of the standard magazines that says that it rides "like a sedan." The handling and performance have been praised for being refined and fun. If I had $35k to spare, I'd buy one.

Besides, would you rather that Pontiac made it look like an Aztek or cover it with plastic body cladding?

I agree with Infernal, I love the engine and the accesories. I wish they would have made the body styling a little more sportier.
There is a stock GTO that runs at our track and it runs a 13.2. not very impressive numbers IMO.

it drove nice compared to mt camaro. took bumbs alot better and handles better at speed than my camaro. when i floored it, it didnt throw the car back like my car but the speedo was flying up there faster.

shouldnt have called it a GTO. it would far more palatable if it where the next gen grandam or grand prix. an upgrade to an existing line.

why cant gm let the names die? did the guy who names things at gm die? i am sure there is a market consultant somewhere who needs a job.

further there is nothing gto like about new gto (certainly not the price).

[yes, yes, i know what gm is trying to do. they know some people bought gto's way back. those people now have more disposable income. they bring back a name so those people can buy something from their past. this irritates me.]

when i think of the GTO, an image of a magnum, i believe thats what it is. a wagon with the hemi so everyone thinks of it as something special and cool like the suburu wagon w/ the wrx engine. its just a faster grand prix to me

but dodge didnt call it a dart or a barracuda or a challenger did they (although the dart is the only model that came in a wagon configuration)?
