The other night it was raining pretty bad and i had washed the camaro earlier. I decided to take my moms lumina. We were heading somewhere and decided to turn around and go back to town. Its a decent turn banked and everything. I was breaking and was down to 40 i roll out of the turn the car hydroplanes jerks the front to the right i try to bring it back to the left and i lose it. The whole car is coming around on the right. Me and my friend Jamie slid so easily right into the ditch. Deep ditch cant even tell where it hurt the car. Cop pulls up and gets a toe truck down there to get us out and i drive my friend and myself home in it. The cop never said anything about a ticket till the end. I got a Failure to maintain proper control ticket. Im 16 recently got my license. The cop said stuff like this happens all the time and for me not to worry about the ticket because its very minor. No one else was involved. My mom just called the court and i do have to go to court and its classified under wreckless driving. Has anyone else had this happen to them and what usually happens? I go to court the day before school starts if i lose my license i dont know what im gonna do. Also anyone know how much these tickets usually cost? No price on the ticket and the clerk never told my mom.

OMG!!!!!!!! I would be pissed at the cop!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! C'mon now, accidents happen all the time. Geez, it's not like you were going 100mph or what not. I would fight the ticket since you're in court anyways, or talk to the cop.
See what I mean about Law Enforcement pushing their power on anyone just for the hell of it. Sorry CamaroSLP and other cops on here, but I firmly agree that ALL of you are corrupt (the force and power made you that way). And I don't have to be a Criminal Justice Major to find that out either. This is just another example.Sinister Six

1998 Sport Metallic Gold Firebird A4:

Whisper Lid, 5% Limo Tint, 30th Anniversary Side Stripes, 3\" Borla Catback Dual Exhaust, Man Fan Switch, SLP CAI
http://members.cardomain.com/98goldbird

yeah... cop sounds like a true as*hole. I mean he wasnt wrecklessly driving... it was a fluke he ended up in the ditch. Actually it was probably the ditch fairy that flew by and put a spell on the car and THATS how he ended up in the ditch... right?

Me and the cop are having a conversation...
me: I cant believe the car just hydro planed like that.
cop: stuff like this happens alot. It will probably happen 20 more times before you quit driving.
me: I tryed to correct it and it got me. Do i get a ticket or anything?
cop: Oh yea your getting a Failure to Maintain Proper Control.
I dont think its right. I mean comeon I told him the story he believed it he didnt even look at the skid marks. I like how he waits till the end to tell me about the ticket. He gave me the ticket in the car because it was raining he handed it to me i was like "thanks officer." Funny how a Cop/Judge can make you pay for a mess up where no one was hurt/involved. Not like they payed for the toe truck. Not like i held up traffic. I hurt nothing. Im starting to agree about the corrupt. Put that much power in any persons hand and it makes them corrupt. thats one of those tickets your pretty much stuck with. there isnt much of an arguement against it. you could always have driven slower and avoided the accident. pay the fine and forget about it. the other one they get you with is 'speed unreasonable and prudent.' you could be going 5mph and hydroplane, but since you lost control, your speed was 'unreasonable.'
I think those situations are pretty much discretionary as to weather or not the cop issues a ticket. if you were 40, you probably wouldnt have gotten anything, but since you are 16... well...... cop is just going to assume you were taking the corner too fast......which if you ended up in the ditch, you were.

I am not saying I am an angel... but I am mature enough to take responsibility for my actions when I do something wrong.
Re-read your post... you sound so ridiculous.
If a cop is not the person to tell you that you failed to maintain proper control who is? Did you fail kindergarten when they explained the roles of police officers in society?
You honestly think that police officers just wreck their cars because they can? Guess what... they pay taxes too, just like you. I suggest you talk to your High School Economics teacher and ask him/her to explain how the economics in a city works.
Driving experience could not have helped? I call shenanigans on that. With driving experience comes knowledge on how to control your car in a skid or how to avoid the skid in the first place... which is why it’s called experience, because you learn from it.
You said you were braking into a turn in the rain and slowing down to 40... so how fast were you going before that? Why didn't you brake sooner? I would implore that you ask professional F1 car racer what he would do and how he would handle it and I can promise he would make it out of the corner without going into the ditch... once again I will point out the experience factor that comes into play here.
I am not giving you a lecture on how to drive... just don’t be so immature that you cannot accept the consequences of what you did wrong and instead try and blame it on some other factor. That is just silly. You messed up, failed to properly maintain control of the car and you went into the ditch... accept it, take the blame and move on.

1. too fast on balding rear tires. slick rear tires will cause the rear end to kick out.
2. tire pressure too low. tire pressure at 5psi below factory recommendation (not tire recommendation) will reduce the contact patch by more than 60% over 35mph.
3. a car can do 3 things, brake, accelerate, and turn. a car cannot multi-task. if you do turn in combination with any of the other two, you will spinout.
4. you over corrected. if the rear end comes around more than 25 degrees, bye-bye.
5. you were going too fast initially; in which case see number 3.
6. you didn't steer/brake/accelerate smoothly.
so there you have it. the car only does what it's told. your driving put you in the ditch.

Same thing happened to me, but I didn't get a ticket.
Wasn't going too fast, or low pressure, just had bald rear tires and went through a little sprinkler run-off in the road before making a left and the back end of my car slid out, but I saved it.
Anyway..
I think what SirShaun is trying to say is that he didn't do any harm to any public or private property so why should he have to pay any court fines since the only thing involved is his car?
His parents will have to pay a tow truck driver.
His parents' tax dollars pay the cop's salary.
His parents will have to pay the increase in insurance if he reports it.
Where does the state come into play here? Oh thats right, they don't. But, they do need every excuse possible to issue tickets and collect fines. God forbid they miss out on their cut.Sinister Six©
My \'95 Bird
I am not afraid of storms, for I am learning how to sail my ship.

When its raining pretty bad here in Houston there are times when going 40 alone would put me at serious risk. Having to break down to 40...to turn...thats reckless driving right there in my opinion if its acctually heavy rain and you were taking a turn.
And you said you didn't hurt anything or property or whatever. Say you took this turn and slid into someones house...different story then. The point of this ticket is not to destroy your record and simply up your insurance. You should be learning a lesson here and make sure to be more careful when situations are not at their peak.Shawn
2002 Silver W68 Firebird
