Police ticket pregnant wife delivery driver, nurse claims

i've been there before. people think they're perfectly legal in their actions, when in fact, the PD probably got 15 phone calls on some maniac driver who ran them off the road. you don't have lights and sirens, don't drive like an azz. and the days of "police escort" are long gone. like some department is going to accept liability for the way this guy drives. depending on the severity of the violation, i may have written him as well. i'd have also called an ambulance and waited for them. if it's a big enough emergency for this guy to drive like an idiot, it's a big enough emergency to wait 2 more minutes for paramedics who can handle the problem while on the way.

Citizens don't always need police officers. Especially the ones in this story and the ones like yourself. Some citizens take actions in their own hands depending upon situation. You aren't godsend, dumbass, you were granted autority by CITIZENS. When are you going to realize this?

It's actually illegal (at least in california) for officers to pull over doctors who are going to the hospital for an emergency.

My dad has many stories of how he has been going 120 on the highways at 4 in the morning, no one around, and had flashing lights behind him... didn't stop, ran into the hospital, then the officer would follow him and ask the hospital if he was a doctor and why he was in such a rush. If it's a valid emergency, they normally don't mess with doctors.

When it comes to being in labor, two minutes isn't going to kill you... and I don't know what hick town you live in where it take 30 minutes for paramedics to come. It's taken no longer than 3 minutes every time I've needed it.

Stephan, I lived in Va. beach for 4 years. I hear ya, but just cause the police are understaffed and over worked in Norfolk does not mean much in this thread (your talking apples and oranges). The ambulance that took over an hour... I know it's sad to say this but the ambulances respond to the most critical calls first. I don't know all the details so I'll not really try to defend them. I'll agree with you though, Ambulances in Va. beach/Norfolk are a little slow. This could be the same situation as with the police, understaffed and over worked...

The guy could've driving like a maniac for another 15 minutes to get to the hospital, or waited 2 to get emergency care. Paramedics could easily deliver a baby anywhere.

I'd take two minutes over 15 any day.

That is kinda a bold statement there these "dumb@ss" nurses are the ones that save your life when you get shot or hurt in a car wreck. It does not sound like all the facts are being stated. If the guy has a legitamate claim he'll be suing the city and there would/will be some wide spread coverage. If not you'll never hear anything about this again. Since, I have yet to hear much about this other than in this thread, my moneys on we do not have the whole story...

Not just Hampton Roads, VA, though. They're slow in just about every major U.S. city.

I would RATHER have waited for the ambulance to arrive when my coworker fell... but I took the law into my own hands, so to speak, when the authorities failed to react in time. That's what a good citizen does.

I was watching a street race and 2 of the guys wrecked, by the time I ran to my car and started to leave, an ambulace was almost already there...
It was probably 1 minute at the most.

To be honest with you I would take option 2 and wait for the ambulance. Let me explain why...

If my friend is bleeding to death he will not be able to apply preasure to the wound and prevent masive amounts of blood from leaving his body. I can call 911 and inform them of the accedent while I am appling preasure to his wound. I can apply a tourniquet. More than likely he'll go into shock and you'll get no help from him.

Try to do all that and drive to the hospitol, and your friend might not make it....

if you go somewhere like fort worth, they use a private ambulance service. they can take a long time to arrive, but they always send FD on priority 1 calls so regardless, you're getting medical care quickly. their PD is the same way. they can take hours to show up.

if you live in the sticks, medical care is usually provided by volunteers so the likely cause of action would be to go yourself depending on the medical problem.

no one has ever been more pissed about slow response times than i. when you're in the middle of an azz whoop contest, it's not fun waiting half an hour for an assist.
