  • Got a hookup driving an SS *updated w/pics*

My Fiancé’s grandpa is a regular at Richmond Dragway and has been going there for years. He has a few cars that he has built that run in the Modified ET division.
She recently introduced me to him back at the beginning of the season. He has watched me race both the Camaro and Saturn in the point’s race and was impressed with my abilities to drag race.

Well Wednesday night at the track while we were shooting the ****, he asked me if I would be interested in driving one of his cars for him in the Modified ET point series next year. He is going to "give me" a 1976 Chevy Nova SS with a 305 V8, 30 over with head and piston work. Mild cam Turbo 350 transmission with reverse lockout and transbrake. TCI 4500 stall converter and a 4.56 locking rear end. He said this car should run 11.80's consistently. He also has an enclosed trailer for it complete with interior lights, workstation and weather station.
He said this car should run 11.80's consistently.

I am supposed to meet him at his house sometime next week to "talk" and he is going to show me the car.
    I'll get more details later.

Just wanted to share with everyone

No such car as a 76 Nova SS. Do your homework.

        I beg to differ.

        http://chevysupersports.com/71-76.htm
1976 was the last year for the Chevelle S-3 and Nova SS. By this time musclecars had become victims of the Arab oil embarge. They were sitting out on used car lots selling for bargain basement prices. It was a time of troubles. Inflation, unemployment, and crime was on the rise. As expensive as gas was who needed the additional stress and insurance surcharges a musclecar would inevitably bring. The sweet sounds of a V8 was now a curse. Instead "hey lets go cruising" it was "hey lets go to the disco." Disco and muslecars did not mix.
        http://www.novaresource.org/history.htm

Both the 262 V8 and the LN only lasted one year. They were replaced in 1976 with the new 5.0 liter 305 V8 and the Concours respectively. 1976 was the last year of the SS and it was not much more than special badges and a stripe kit option that could be ordered with any engine including the 250 base six. The SS did, however, receive a new diamond pattern grille with clear, horizontal turn signals. To commemorate the Olympic games in 1976, Chevrolet created the "Gold Medalist" Nova (RPO-Z78). It included special gold paint (paint code 53) and "Gold Medalist" emblems. While there are no specific numbers for the Medalist package, there were 5,489 Novas built with this special gold paint.

Okay I was wrong. It is a '68 Nova, not an SS, But the engine going into it is a 327 chevy small block bored 30 over with a Holly 750 cfm 4 barrel carb. Here are some pics of the engine and of the car. The car does not look all that great but we have until April to get it looking good.
