200 bucks? hell no! tell me your problems and maybe i can help you for free

viruses dont cause hardware damage my friend, unless someone has written one that can up the voltage on a certain peice of equiptment... which is unlikely..

you have to keep your adware removal and virus protection updated, if you dont then of course, new viruses will get in and norton wont know, it has to download the latest pattern files constantly. new viruses come out every day guys...

if you have winxp you can get SP2, it shuts down a lot of network ports and what not, it really decreases your ability to get much of anything, however, you still need stuff because its just a fence that viruses and adware are going to inevitably jump... SP2 has been known to break lots of things however. so if your not too computer savvy and have a lot of network related programs, AIM, MSN messenger, computer gaming stuff like microphone junk (roger wilco) lol anything that utilizes the net might get broken, but im running it and everythings gone fine for me, some people have issues turning on their computers also, so check your manufacture website and see if they say anything about drivers you need before installing it...
unless you built your comp like me and you know what your doing haha

other than that, i think any virus protection is good, (other than mcafee) as long as its updated.

good luck, like i said, cut down on the porn and free serial numbers, and stop clicking on those "do you think kerry should have won" banners LOL you get spyware by clicking on those fake popups about computer status.... i bet 70 percent of this board has Gator lol... those grey boxes that come up with a privacy statement and ask you if you trust a company..

ALWAYS LOOK AT THE COMPANY!!! sometimes its microsoft (click yes, aparently you need it for something) or flash or somthing, but if it says something like gator or webrebates click no!!!

Pc-cillin did always work better then Norton or Mccrappy. Less intrusive and power robbing. Though I have not use it on a year or so. And never used the firewall. They also seams to get to the newer bad viruses first and does a much much deeper scan. It would find things no others would.

What have you been clicking on? :D I love Zone Alarm Pro. Greatest (personal) firewall... ever. I use that and the google toolbar, and get no pop-ups ever. or you could just switch to a Mac and forget about spyware and viruses pretty much completely. I also use Norton Systemworks 2003 and love that as well. Have yet to have any problems with my computer
