Points on your liscence out of state?

I live in Ny. If I got a ticket for speeding in Mass, will I get points on my liscence? Anyone know this for a fact or who I should call to find out? Who would know this, DMV maybe? My buddy got a ticket for going through a stop light in Florida, he paid the fine and no points were put on his liscence. Is it a state by state deal or does this hold true for all states?

Two things, some states will give you points for out of state tickets, and only if that state communicates with yours. NJ is 4 points for out of state offenses. So I would check with your DMV and see what they do. You may have to drive to Mass to plea bargain no points

Out-of-state traffic violations: Except for Ontario and Quebec, points are not added to your NYS driver record if you commit an out-of-state traffic violation. Points can appear on your NYS driver record if you commit a traffic violation in Ontario or Quebec.

Thanks man, it never crossed my mind to check the DMV website. Thats awesome, ton of help! Im bookmarking that page. Now unfortunatley I will not learn my lesson on the mass pike, because its the points that scare me, not the fine.

I've gotten speeding tickets out of state in PA and NY.

I have always paid within 10 days the fine and they have not transferred back to NJ.

Oh, I hadn't gotten a ticket. Its just I travel that way alot, and im usually hauling along pretty good, and apparently those Mass troopers just really didn't give a crap, because they had me red handed about 3 or 4 times, but never pulled me over. Just lucky I guess.

i know this for a fact...NYS DMV does not correspond with any neighboring states...actually they do not correspond with any states at all...only if you are driving in that state without a license...if you get a ticket in Mass you will get no points on your license...and it will not affect your insurance...all you have to do is pay the fine...i live close to the border...once im there...i drive however the hell i want lol [img]smile.gif[/img]

So you actually in Albany? Or did you put that to just give a general idea of where you are? Im from good ol Amsterico, heh. And yea, I already drive however the hell I want when im over there, but now that I know for sure I won't get points, im probably going to get myself into some more trouble, lol.
