  • Excessive TV commercials and advertising

I think its sick the way companies are force feeding so much TV commercials/advertising to North American viewers. It never used to bother me so much, but lately I am really getting sick of it. We have all kinds of programs to help cut down this sort of thing on the computer (pop up blockers, ad-war scanners, etc), I wish someone would come out with a device to block TV commercials.

Some of my most annoying commercials:

    *Old Navy
    *Coca-cola
    *McDonals (i'm lovin it..)
*Car commercials in general (because they always try to make you feel like you aren't complete or cool unless you get their car)
*Generic commercials from technology/network companies (the ones which don't specifically advertise a product or service, but try to make you think this company is the foundation of great things to come, etc.. I hate those )
*any commercial that plays repeadetly in a 1 or 2 hour time slot
    *mccain rising crust pizza
    *commercials advertising radio stations

There's alot more, I just can't remember now.

Some of the commercials I really like because they are funny and original:

    *Geiko insurance
*Taco Bell (the ones with the dog)
    *Honest/humble advertising.. health products

Prescription drug commercials piss me off.

I hate commercials, but understand how important advertising is to the economy also. As a business owner myself, I know how important it is to my business. If not for certian types of advertising, I woulnd't be in business at all

I hate the prescription drug commercials. Those people are running on beaches, dining on yachts, vacationing on private islands.

Hell, give me the STD. I want all that fun!

Ever notice how short they have to cut the Top Gear episodes on Discovery? In order to fill in all our damn commercials, they have to cut large portions from the show. Just goes to show you how much more of our tv time is commercials then Britians. Even at the end they have to roll the credits at the bottom of the screen while still airing the show just for those precious extra advertising seconds!

I dont watch the garbage they put on TV in 2.5 years & I have 2 sets in the house.
I rent my dvds through Netflix.com, I can choose my form of entertainment.
The pc and laptop are available to me for news and dvd movies and games and CamaroV6.com.

But I agree on 1 thing about commercials & ads, they are a big time distraction just as pop-ups are on your screen.

On average 30 minute shows will be about 20-23 minutes with the rest being commercials. Its annoying and there is no end in sight.

have you ever switched between channels just to find the exact same commercial at the same exact being played in both channels?? For a brief moment, time and space continuum seem to stand still.

                              It's called a DVR ;)

Advertising sucks, but there would be no TV at all without commercials. TV stations have to make money in order to stay on the air. Trust me, it costs A LOT of money to operate a TV station.
