well my dealership does alot of promotional stuff, such as the boat show going on tommorow, so they decide to truck in a prototype hybrid sierra....most confusing screwed up design I've ever seen...now its not the kind of hybrid your thinking about...lemme explain....4x4 powertrain, 5300 vortec(V8), no serpentine belt, no alternator (not visible at least), no visible starter, electric powersteering pump, brake rejuvunation thingy(it's late and I forget the technical term for it), electric A/C compressor, a whole s*it load of wires and computers under the hood, and a 42volt battery spanning the width of the truck under the rear seat, now try and help me figure out how this thing works...no visible starter, no visible generator, only thing that comes to my mind is a starter/generator is mounted right to the flywheel or torque converter....when you come to a stop the motor shuts off, give it gas and it kinda hesitates, until the motor turns over and gets ya going, doesnt make much sense to me....beside the fact that it only get 17mpg a standard 5.3 gets about 15-16 mpg.....someone help me out here try and give me some logic as to why they would create this vehicle...and more importantley what intrigues me the most is how does the sucker work

"The HEV version of the Sierra pickup is powered by a 5.3 liter Vortec V8 supplemented by a 42V Lead Acid (PbA) battery connected to a motor generator that provides auto stop and start. GM claims that this boost fuel economy from 15mpg to 17mpg for the four-wheel drive version that I test-drove. The system is a mild hybrid; the electric motor does not provide additional power for starting and acceleration, it only shuts down the motor when the truck is stationary.
The first thing I noticed about the car was that although the fit and finish seemed quite good and the inside was well appointed, the crew cab doors needed a good slam to close them properly. The front seat was roomy and the all-way adjustment on the seats made it easy to get comfortable. The rear seats weren't exactly roomy but were big enough for children or to get a crew to the work site.
Creeping forward in the line for the test track I noticed that when I trod on the brake lightly the engine kept running. Applying a little more pressure caused the engine to cut out. As I lifted my foot off the brake the engine started up again seamlessly."Mustangs.. Come to the darkside...

The dark side is the path to the shadow of greed. =D
