• New military BDUs being tested...

    Let's talk about them...

I personally want to stick with these greens (summer/winter weight) forEVA.

I've seen the AF ones and I think camo blue and gray doesn't conceal us AIRMEN to anything. I feel sorry for the combat controllers and the pararescue troops.

I've seen the Army's new BDU concept and I think its pretty good compare to the Marines pixelize greens and AF blue and gray.

What do ya'll think for those people who knows what I'm talking about?

Those Army ones w/the angled pockets on the shirt just look funky. AS for th AF "urban renewal" gray, well, if you stand up by the gray aircraft, there's your cammo.

I forget which AF new style has the USAF & emblem in the material, the cloud formation one or the other.

Marines one looks like some of the ones as seen in John Wayne movie :Green Barrets". Always a classic.

... they're tested... and they work a lot better.

They don't just stick a few colors together, in certain patterns and then go " that looks good "... many stages.. if they're replaced then they are a lot better. Who cares what the look like as long as they work better.

From what I have learned from contingencies never use vehicles or planes as your cover or cammo. Its a BIG target.

Honestly, Why do AF personnel need "concealment" anyway! Same with the Navy unless, you're on the VBSS team, you do not really need camo . Just another expenditure Military does not need. Kinda like the 20K for a hammer and 50K for a toilet seat joke. Don't get me wrong, I'm in favor of new outfits, from time to time, but there is no reason for AF or Navy personnel to really be in any kind of camo in the US. Not too mention the Military does not get paid enough to buy new outfits everytime there is a new uniform that's approved and required.

Sure we do. It's that $300/yr we get that we spend on TV's, stereos, car mods, instead of uniform replacement. ;)

                  Linxs,

AF personnel do need concealment. What about us Security Forces personnel? We're often in the field providing Air Base Defense, patrolling the installation, or securing the flightline.

Also, the colors are meant to conceal our location in urban environments, which is where we spend most of our time. Ever see cammies on a runway? Sore thumb come to mind?

Well, that's where I would disagree with you. You are not there to be hidden. You're there to be seen as a visual deturent as well as the first line of defence. When you patrol, espesially when you're patroling a large area, your in a vehical. Cammo does you no good when your in a vehical patroling. I would hate to be concealed on a runway when a airplane was landing/taking-off. The tower/plan can not see you and that makes a nasty combination.

Am I missing something? Are you saying you get paid enough to replace your uniforms? $300 is not much money to replace uniforms.

All I'm saying is there is no real benefit for you to have Cammos. It's a waist of money at the tax payers expence. I'd much rather the government give you an increase in pay, then spend time and money outfitting people with equipment they do not need.

SO, if we don't get cammies, what do we deploy in? What do we perform our war fighting duty in?

And yes, $300 is enough to replace uniforms, but also depends on how much use they get/how fast they get worn out.

ANd yes, even people working the flightline need concealment, especially when getting attacked.

hmmm. I don't wea camo's (navy) although I have a very comfortable set of dark blue coveralls I wear daily on the ship. Our Visual-Boarding-Search-and-Seazuire teams usually wear desert camo, but I think thats only to identify them as military (kinda pointless on an ocean backdrop). I've got a tac-vest that I wear with my utilities (a uniform that looks like the one the guy wears when he changes your tires, except cleaner) but it's black...

                          Linxs,

We also patrol on foot and do many other tasks like LP/OPs (if you don't know what those are, please stop speaking about how much the AF needs or does not need cammies). I won't go into all of the different tasks we do on a daily basis that require concealment. Unless you've worked in the AF as a member of the daily gun toters, don't make blanket statements on subjects you know nothing about. ;)

How long have you been in Security Forces in the AF. A really good friend of mine is going to be stationed in Wyoming real soon. She is Security Forces for the AF.

i thnk your guys are mistaken i got a email from a general in the P-GON for a survay, of the new AF uniform

ITS only goning to be our work uniforms, if we deploy we get the one wee need in that area..

also the hole point is to reduce cost for the person. the new AF uniforms (no more polishing freaking boots) only rank and name and the USAF is there already. also the under shirts will have rank and name so we can were them mor offten

also you wont have to dryclean/iron this new one (no more crease) wash and wear basically.

now the new army and marine unifor are REALLY GOOD camo, i as walking in Iraq and they jumped up from the ground in daylight and scared the crap out of us, we did not even see them you can watch them walk over some were turn your head away then look back and it's hard to pick them out.
