Looks like she's going to the Missile Fields. I've been SF for 4 years (not counting basic). Not a bad career field, but it's time for me to see what else the AF offers. I'm currently looking into retraining options, my ASVAB scores get me into just about anything (except if it requires another language, like linguist). Tell her to keep her nose clean and use this as an opportunity to learn the discipline the rest of the Air Force rarely, if ever, learn.

How bout some linkage to all these new outfits your guys are arguing about?

I'm about to enlist myself, haven't decided between the Corps or AF yet but I'm leaning towards the leathernecks. I'm interested in aviation mechanics while I'm enlisted, then I plan to get a degree and become an officer/pilot. The AV-8 Harrier is what I have my sights on but I guess they'll put me in whatever they think I'm best at

Speaking of ASVAB, I just took it today for the first time and I scored in the 99th percentile... is that any good? :-P I'll get my individual scores early next week so I can start talking serious business with the peeps down at the recruiting office.

Just go to each services web sites & search. Should be something out there, or even goole the thing. As always, get it in writing from teh recruiter about what job/career field you want to go into. In the AF you can go into basic w/a garunteed AFSC, instead like mechanical/general.

As far as disceplene goes, that's up to the individual themselves. Doesn't matter what field there in. And yeah, what missile fields? Can neither confirm nor deny existance of...............

We also patrol on foot and do many other tasks like LP/OPs (if you don't know what those are, please stop speaking about how much the AF needs or does not need cammies). I won't go into all of the different tasks we do on a daily basis that require concealment. Unless you've worked in the AF as a member of the daily gun toters, don't make blanket statements on subjects you know nothing about. ;)
Yes, I am fully aware that there are patrols that walk around. Would you be talking about Listening posts and Observation posts. Anyway, I'm just telling you what I think and stating my opinion. I never said I was right I just simple stated my opinion.

How long have you been in Security Forces in the AF. A really good friend of mine is going to be stationed in Wyoming real soon. She is Security Forces for the AF.
I was never in the AF.

hmmm. I don't wea camo's (navy) although I have a very comfortable set of dark blue coveralls I wear daily on the ship. Our Visual-Boarding-Search-and-Seazuire teams usually wear desert camo, but I think thats only to identify them as military (kinda pointless on an ocean backdrop). I've got a tac-vest that I wear with my utilities (a uniform that looks like the one the guy wears when he changes your tires, except cleaner) but it's black...
hmm, That's really odd. They should be wearing dark carmmo. Really does you no good to stand out like a sore thumb when you are onboard a ship and you're sweeping/clearing spaces on a ship where you do not know for a fact if you have everyone on deck or not.

SO, if we don't get cammies, what do we deploy in? What do we perform our war fighting duty in?
I was talking about here in the US. It's a completely different story when your deployed. Quess I should have made that distinction, sorry.

And yes, $300 is enough to replace uniforms, but also depends on how much use they get/how fast they get worn out.[\quote] Interesting, I guess AF personnel have supper uniforms. 300 dollars is not nearly enough replace uniforms. Hmm maybe AF gets a lot of uniforms given to them from their commands?
ANd yes, even people working the flightline need concealment, especially when getting attacked.
I already stated my opinion about this. *shrug*

Dry cleaning is an option when you do not get them excessivly dirty and if you have access to one. sure, I can see that.

Changing uniforms cause none-military can get their hands on them is a really silly reason to chang uniforms. Also, following a change in uniforms is usually the new standard. The 2-4 sets of uniforms your receive will be the new "standard" and the old uniforms will be phased out. This will ultimatly cost you money down the road that you would not have had to sped if there was not a uniform change.

I hope noone takes this to seriously I am not looking to "fight" and have people start calling names cause I have a different opinion than you. I am just posting my thoughts on the subject. I would much rather the government give the military a signifigante pay rase tan the normal below inflation rate pay increase that is normally given. I did not mean to make this so long but I was kinda busy at qwork and I did not want to post till I was leaving for the day.

Well, it either means you're in the top 1%, or the bottom 1%. One way or another, all us military peeps are pretty stupid... ;)

tell that to the marines that was shoot at and killed becuase a ememy had a US uniform on. (not trying to flame, but usally buy time they would relized the person wasn't one of ours there to close, i mean suiside bombs have some range on them)

and it will not cost us more monye down the road, like i said the hole point for the AF is to reduce cost for the personal. i dry clean mine becuase we have to have a crease in the arm and leg, not because there so durty i cant wash them. dry cleaning does not fade them like washing them does so they last longer. the new one you don't have to dry clean, there made to be washed. not only that i dont like spending a houror more per unifor EVERY NIGHT i get them dry cleaned and that last ALOT longer. plus they hand you 4 new uniforms so if you did need new ones you don't now....

You can usually find alot of stuff in military.com.

Hey viper...

You haven't experience dry cleaning woes til you're in HONORGUARD. I was in AF Honorguard for a year and I tell ya' they get very anal on inspections of your boots and creases of your uniform.

I understand your point here but... (again just my opinion)

Well , honestly that's very poor security. Yes I know suicide bombers are very hard to defend against. That's why you study your enemy and if that's something that they are willing to do then you take preventative measures to eliminate the possibility of a bombers getting close enough to use it. War is not pretty, I hate it but some times it's nessesary. Anything can happen at any point in time. Even if the government changes uniforms every other week, if the enemy wanted a pair they would find a way. I agree it's slightly harder to get new one but not enough to make a real impact in anything.

It's the same exact reason why the USS Cole had a nice hole in the side of her. Piss poor security, especially in an unfriendly environment. I mean really.... The Navy allows (or allowed) foreign tugboats to tire up to US ships without knowing who or what is on the tug.

I don't mean to sound so harsh....

Again not everyone has the ability to dry clean all uniforms. When you wash your uniforms in a washing/drying machine compounded with getting them dirty (reamember not every rate stays semi-clean, you have rates that get very dirty from grease and so on) and a uniform will not last a whole year.
