The still workhorse test model has 3.8lbs per horsepower at 3200lbs w/ 850 horsepower. The Veyron has 3.6lbs per horsepower with 3520lbs and 987 ACTUAL horsepower.
ME 4-12 is being pushed to be produced by the engineers in Auburn Hills and it may happen according to the white collar big shots at Daimler-Chrysler I know ;) The goal with the ME 4-12 is to get it at 3000lbs or less, so that 3.6lbs per horsepower isn't going to be anything compared to this when they shave that weight off! Currently it does 2.5 0-60.

Also, I don't see anyone complaning about the first car (Spyker), for only having 400 hp. The Z06 is still an afforbable car compared to some of the other ones posted though

Still a 500hp Vette would not hold any ground to a 1000hp Veyron. You're right it's an affordable car that a lot of people can buy. A Veyron or McLaren can't be bought by just anyone.
In a race between both cars stock the Vette wouldn't even come close.
