Ripping = turn the tracks on the cd into a format for the computer to play.

If you have mp3's you need to convert them to WAV files because thats what normal cd players understand

Also, I have a standard CD player in my house that won't play MP3's. What format should I burn them in to make them play?
I can't tell if you're serious or not...

Ripping music is basically when you extract the music off of a music CD and encode it into mp3, etc.

To play mp3s in a regular CD player you need to make a Music CD, not Data CD, when creating one with whatever software you're using.

EDIT: Will burning a Data CD with just WAV files on it work? I've never tried that.

Yes, unfortunately I don't have much knowledge with computer's, especially the music burning stuff ;) I can never get my CD-R's to work on my home stereo after burning them with MusicMatch 10. I guess it's time to upgrade my basic CD player to a MP3 unit :D

Windows Media Player 10 can encode to mp3 directly. To select this option:

Tools->Options->Rip Music Tab->Select mp3 from the pull down list

(I belive the name of the tab is Rip Music, I am at a windows 2000 machine right now so can't get the exact name)

If you get an error from WMP 10 saying there is no mp3 encoder installed then you have some registry settings that have become corrupted. If that happens just post back here and I will tell you which registry settings to delete and then you can reinstall WMP 10.

Excellent free program that will let you convert just about any format into any other format. Requires a little thought to use, but the website/program documentation explains it all well.
