GM is doing bad, but it's not b/c of they're employee benefits. A few things need to be said here. 1) Employee benefits are a big expense on the company, i will concede that. However, if you compare the American car workers (GM included) to German/Japanese car workers, they make approximately 30% less than their counterparts. Without doing the math, I would assume that GM doesn't pay much more per worker with benefits than their counterparts who have national benefits. 2) GM is run by idiots. Example: Look no further than the GM-Fiat alliance to build a global platform. GM was getting screwed by this deal left and right. In the end, they had to pay $2 Billion dollars to Fiat for basically nothing.

^ I agree. GM has terrible management. I had always thought of investing in the company but now I've changed my mind completely. I'm not sure GM can pick itself up and back to what they used to be.

this whole thread is bogus. better run it through snopes to verify accuracy & help maintain purity of the internet.

random thoughts: Would any of the big three, well big 2 w/1 german decent now, be where they are if Unions had as much power as they do?

Whatever happened to turbines in cars? surely they have advanced by now......

Would milage/fuel consumption be as much an issue in the statesif the cars "made" here weren't such pigs?
