• Anyone gone to UTI or Wyotech???

Hey guys,

Well.......it's been 5 years since I got out of High School. I haven't really done much with my life short of having a sucky job for 4 of those 5 years. I've always tinkered the idea of going to either Wyotech or UTI (Universal Technical Institute) and I can't find squat for information on either one (like costs, living, etc...)

So I figured there's alot of gear heads on the boards, from all over the U.S.A that might have attented something like this. I'm currently in Santa Barbara, CA which is 2hrs outside the nearest school, BUT I'm willing to move where-ever to go to school as it'll probably be cheaper. You know, like Texas or something

I'm just curious if you've gone, how long is the school, how much in the end is it, living and such, just the basics of this. I'd much rather hear someone's expereince then have a sales guy trying to sell me on it. Yes I like cars, yes I'm good with them, yes I've had experience, I just want to get something that says I am all this so I can maybe have a future ahead of me instead of having nothing at this point. Did going to one of these schools help you get a decent job? That's always an important one.

Just post back and let me know. It is all greaty appricated

Thanks guys,
Chris

I've heard, keyword heard, from a friend of mine that he hated UTI...pointless.

And for something they have to have infomercials for...that scares me. If you want a career as a mechanic you should try to get into Chrysler's CAP, GM's ASEP or Ford's ASSET program.

I was going to get into Ford's ASSET program, but I was having a hard time finding a sponsor and with the threat of my parents moving away to Kansas City because my step dad getting a 6 figure job offer, I decided to just go on to USF and live on campus for my remaining 2.5 years.

If you do decide to go into one of those programs, here are some tips once you find a school near you that offers one of them.

1)Find a dealer ASAP, I mean almost a year in advance.

2)ASSET was 2 STRAIGHT years, just 2 week break in x-mas, so be prepared.

Good luck.
