hey: i searched but all the info is outdated and most of the links no longer work, i know shirl posted about this while i was in the desert but i can't find it.....

i would like to get a roll bar and 5 point harness 1. becuase my car will need one cuase my goal is 10.99 and 2. i feel safer in the car with a bar ;) , and side a impact might only hurt me lol, and 5 point hareness are pimp, the ladies look good in them to

i was thinking about a 6 point bar, weld in (bolt'n cost to damn much) but the install i mean do you have to take out the head liner and CARPET to get the thing in there. my uncle can weld (went to school for under water welding...) any info please.

mods please leave this here for like a day then move it the site is like dead latly.......

My bro has to remove his carpet to put in his roll cage. He has a 10 point cage, though.
You might be able to get away with just removing section of the carpet, or maybe peeling it back to get to the area you need to weld. And you don't need to remove the headliner... the roll cage does not weld to the roof Unless it's a fire hazard or something.

the one in my car at work is welded in. the carpet in the back on the rear axle hump had to be cut for the bars. the headliner doesn't have to be removed.

You will have to cut or remove the carpet, not only seat removal.

It might take a while.. I don't know how limber your uncle is, but it's pretty hard crawling around in our tiny *** cars

I don't know if you get to keep your back seats or not either... my bro's nova doesn't have his back seats anymore because of the cage.

The one I bought is RK Sport's 4 point roll bar. It's real nice looking. Problem is, it's been sitting in the basement because I haven't been racing and I'm not sure what to do with it at this point. Also, it isn't NHRA legal, so depending on who's doing tech that day, you might not get through if they know you have an 11 second (or faster) car. You might want to look into a Wolfe cage. You'll need at least a 5 point to be legal, but I would think that 6 point would be the way to go because it looks better. They also have ones with swing-out door bars. They are a bit pricey and require some welding. I got mine from RK Sport for $300 shipped to my door in bubble wrap during one of the months when they had a "free shipping" promotion. Some interior cutting of the plastic rear panels is necessary, which is another reason I haven't quite gotten around to installation. I don't want to butcher the car.... but imagine how bada$$ it'll look with the bar. Stefan has one of RK Sport's bars and I've seen others with them...it looks way cool and can save your life someday. I weighed mine and it was about 40lbs, so there will be a little weight gain with it. Some are more... like 60lbs. or so depending on the brand and how thick the steel is, ect.

Headliner doesn't have to come out...I'm not sure about the carpet. I know Travis put one of the bars in that you're looking at... maybe he will give some advice on the install...Keith (Magnus) has a one too..

Shirl has the same one I have.

http://www.projectvirus.com/albums/virtualtour

I've had this for 4-5 years now and can't really complain, though there are a few notes:

1. No 3800 V6 will ever need more than a 4-point cage
2. 5-point harnesses take getting used to but they're fun
3. Get an in-car video camera mount (RKSport also sells this) and a Camcorder for some AWESOME videos!
4. Passenger seat can only slide back about 50% of the way and must sit almost straight up. This means:

a. If your wife/girlfriend is fat, don't get a cage.
b. If you plan on driving your buddies around, don't get a cage.
c. If you ever plan on using your back seat again, don't get a cage.

5. Saltwater is a mother. I lived in Virginia Beach for four years of this cage's life and the corrosion is terrible. The rest of the car has it too but its extra noticeable on the cage.

6. No welding required. As stated, mine's a bolt-on and I've had no problems for five years.

Eh... shouldn't this be moved to a technical forum? Um, cages, technically suspension, so moving there.
