It's nice that Lutz announced that we're going to be getting another car to succeed the Camaro, even if they don't end up calling it a Camaro.

My favorite quote from that article though,
"The Camaro and its twin, the Pontiac Firebird, were favorites of young drivers who loved tooling around in a powerful, muscle car at a moderate price."

I think most of this is spin to offset all the crap they got for announcing they were shutting down plans to really go forward with a rwd platform. Between that announcement and their recent woes it's time to try to put a spin on everything to elevate stock prices. Honestly don't get too worked up until you see a production version of anything, then wait a year for the rebates before you buy.
I can see them wanting to steer clear of the camaro label for any new rwd platform though. Look what happened with the gto, if they had named it anything else I think they would have had more success. Also pricing is an issue, if gm would make their asking price what they auctually expect to sell the cars for then people wouldn't be walking off the lots in sticker shock.
Anyway until they can get their **** together don't count on much coming from gm except more vette's or suv's/trucks. Well that and badge engineering. Also as long as gas prices stay high, the sale of v8 sports cars is gonna remain slow.
Basically what I'm saying is that gm has so much working against it don't expect much in the way of a good rwd sports car anytime soon.
I could go on for hours about this whole issue with gm and pontiac in particular. Let's just say that gm is on a downhill slide and no one vehicle is gonna bring them out of it and until they realize people want quality (ever how they percieve quality) all the way across the gm line gm's current way of thinking is going to force them down the path of mediocrity.

i think people need to realize that the type of car enthusiests that we have on this site are not the majority of car buyers. the majority of people out there arnt looking for a high powered gas guzzleing RWD vehicle

In my opinion GM is doing a wonderful job and not on a downhill slide. How could anybody argue with a 400+hp corvette, 400hp GTO, 300hp Grand Prix and Monte Carlo, 200hp Cobalts and ion redlines. Chevy has brought back the SS name and today's cars deserve it as much as the older ones did. Cadilac even has a sports car! There is a GM performance vehicle for almost any budget. If they bring back the Camaro good deal. it would sell very well, but it would be a difficult task to build a camaro to top the last one.

James is just so used to deleting things for weight reduction - it is part of his nature now.

Everybody is ripping GM - even the Wall Street Journal ran an Op/Ed piece today mentioning the axing of the Zeta platform.

One business thing that does not get mentioned on auto boards much is the huge overhead load GM carries to pay the extremely rich health and retirement benefits to its employees. It is one reason, but certainly not the only reason, for their problems.
I solemnly swear I am up to no good.
