Grrr...affirmative action as absolutely nothing to do with hiring someone. There is no such thing as a quota under affirmative action policies. All affirmative action says is you have to give everyone a chance to apply for the position and in the interview you have to ask the same questions. In other words, everyone has the same opportunity of obtaining a position, it does not give anyone an advantage.

So affirmative action is not the reason.

Also, companies do not have to follow affirmative action policies. They aren't law. However, if you are in the business of getting government contracts of any type then you have to have an affirmative action hiring policy. Which simply means what I stated above.

Infernal, it really sounds like the good-ol-boy network at work. The other candidate must have known someone there.

</font>[/QUOTE]quota's may technically be illegal, but they are why woman are hired on the fire and police depts w/ lower standards then men, i for one dont want some 120lb woman trying to carry my *** out of a burning building. but b/c woman are a minority they get hired, only have to do a fraction of the physical stuff that men to on the entry exams. Dont say someone being a minority has nothing to do w/ the hiring practices of companies

It's weird most of my friends go through a couple interviews with several company's before one of them will get offered a job. Then I can go and have an interview and they will tell me to start work tomorrow. I can't tell you how I do it, my friends have all asked me.

I've always thought that if I were hiring someone, it would be someone who could do the job well, etc. But I'd want someone who I could get along with, and would fit in with everyone else in the office. While you may not have any "personality falts" but you may have been to formal/buisness like, and not let the person interviewing you, actually get to know you.

Thats my only guess. Hope it helps.

Your other friend was probably just trying to get any of his friends working there. And figured the more of his friends that applied the better chance he'd have of having one of his friends work with him. Kind blows there was only 2 people that were both his friends who showed up. You could always reapply once they hire again, now you know 2 people there.
