there was a story in the newspaper a few days ago...a reporter went down to the Draft Commission , or whatever the hell it's called, in Washington. He interviewed both the bottom-level employees and the top officials. both groups said that they have heard no serious talk about reinstating the draft, and they don't think we'll need to, anyway.
don't get so scared about a draft.
and, if by some chance that the draft IS reinstated, you should serve with pride, dammit. even if you don't agree with the war, your country needs you. better to fight and help your country than to run away and criticize it.\'98 Camaro - SOLD
Best E/T: 15.489 @ 86.48 MPH
60\': 2.131
members.cardomain.com/skorpion317
1998 Saturn SL2
Official NJ Disturbance bracket racer

What's happening to this country... first the retarded patriot act, now draft is in works (even though it might not pass, the fact itself is enough)... I left Russia because I believed in a free speech, limited government and freedom from being drafted into state military against my own will.
This country is slowly becoming a police state. I must voice my opinion on news channel or something. Maybe I should contact them.
The terrorist achieved what they wanted - to scare the **** out of USA. Now everyone is paranoid about terrorists. Half of DC is blocked off, federal police is all over the place... I hope that after the war on terror is over (if it's ever going to be), that the excissive police presence will dissapear.

1. IF it passes... is a very, very big if. Politicians talk about the draft every time America goes to war. This is nothing new.
2. "all person form 18-26 years of age will be required to join"
Not only is your grammar and spelling terrible, but that's untrue. IF it passes, all persons 18-26 will become ELIGIBLE to be selected. Just because a draft is issued does not mean you will be selected.
Think about this country's population: around 300 million. Of these 300 million, roughly 10% are in the 18-26 age range, thus we have about 30 million candidates. To my knowledge, women are still not eligible for the draft, so that cuts the available pool to 15 million. The current U.S. strength in Iraq is somewhere in the 100,000 - 200,000 range. How many more troops would the U.S. need? Maybe up to 100,000 more if **** REALLY hit the fan? So that's 1 in 150.
Even if this passed, and even if 100,000 troops were called up for duty, only 1 in 150 eligible young men would be called upon. Say if your high school had 300 people in your graduating class (150 of which are guys), that's ONE from your entire high school.
So don't start thinking about a mass exodus to Canada here, folks.
Besides, I side with our military members on this issue... you pansies who are whining about the draft all call yourselves Republicans and you're all for wars in stupid third world countries yet when its YOUR turn to fight you whine and try to run, talking about making up excuses and going to Canada. Yeah, you're true Americans... [/QUOTE]I agree with you, Stefan, but another thing to remember about when you were talking about cutting the 30 mill -> 15 mill, theres also other reasons that you will not be selected, or will make you have a better chance of not being selected. A few years back, my brother joined the Navy, and he was supposed to leave for Ill. to go to boot camp on 9/11, but got in a car wreck and never went. But about a week after 9/11, I drove him down to the recruiting office so he could see when he was leaving, and I was talking about the draft and he said along with the Army recruiter, that I would most likely not be selected because I am my moms only son, my only other sibling is my younger sister, so there are other reasons that give you a "get out of draft free" cards so to speak.
Also as far as whos better, Bush or Kerry, it comes down to the lesser of 2 evils. All politicans are liars, its just what they do best. Bush wouldnt have won the election if he said "I am going to invade all of these terrorist populated contries and put us in a war where we have to send over thousands and thousands of troops to risk their lives because I am an idiot and can't mind my own business." Now Bush has put us in a situation that no matter who is president, we still are going to have to live with the same fears.Andrew

We spent about week on this subject in my warfare class last spring. Another reason it may not pass is current volunteers in the military would not view the draft people the same as the volunteers there afraid there run away in a bad situation. We also talk about if some one got drafted and really seemed coward most likely get put on some type of guard duty at a building or something since the wussyness could put the rest of there comrades in danger. Also I was reading in local new paper it prolly would not pass.1998 Navy Blue A4 Camaro (Sold)
MODS: Performance
Whisper airlid,K&N Filter, TSP Rumbler & Carsond cat.
Apperance:Xenon Airdam and clearcorners. http://www.cardomain.com/id/wilkcamaro98
2002 Dodge Ram Sport Silver 4.7 v8 stock.
