No .. you live in "just another state". We live in Texas and the entire state works to keep our state from being "just another state". [/QUOTE]...like Nebraska.
Originally posted by Brett Garret: Wow, guys please read over your high school text books. Yes Texas lost the Alamo to Santa Ana (sp). However, his pride was his downfall when we counterattacked with a force equal and decimated the Mexicans during their siestas and laughing at Texas' forces. Even then Texas was ASKED to join the union. This is the reason for its many liberties the rest of the US does not have i.e. - flag can be flown at same height, split into five states, there are others that I admit I cannot recall but the REPUBLIC of Texas has alot others. I know all this took place a while ago but Texas has a significant history to that of many other states. IMO, Texas is a great state that the union needed at the time. I do not believe we are a flamer state so to speak. We are very firm in our heritage but in no way are "living in the year 1864". New England has its history to be proud of colonization away from the motherland. It's just our history. Texas and California are like black and white in alot of ways. This is why we are one but are different in many ways. THAT'S CULTURE my friends. It is not division rather our part in being such a melting pot of a country. If you want arrogance go to New York, if you want hospitality go southern. I am not trying to say one state is better than anothers, just tell how it is from the eyes of a Texan.
When "we" counter attacked? What are you? 180 years old? You talk about it like you were a part of it. Besides, its not a siesta, its a fiesta. :D ;)
Mustangs.. Come to the darkside...

The dark side is the path to the shadow of greed. =D
let's see, 2000 against 200. santa anna lost 700 men. texas lost almost all 200. that's at least 3-1 odds.
then santa anna slaughtered goliad.
about a month and a half after the alamo, santa anna met general sam houston and his 700 men. they killed half of santa anna's army of 1500 and took the other half prisoner. it took them 18 minutes. they caught that little bi+ch azz santa anna the next day dressed like a regular peep.
everytime i go through san antonio, i stop by and pay my respects.
Texas would have broke from Mexico even if Santa Anna skipped the Alamo and had defeated Sam Houston at San Jacinto. There were US Army units in Louisianna that basically looked the other way if their soldiers wanted to go over to San Jacinto to fight. It was assumed by the government that Texas would want to join the US immediately after gaining their independence, as most of the settlers in Texas were former Americans anyway. The United States would have simply fought the Mexican-American war several years sooner if the Mexicans had managed to put down the revolution.
Someone set me strait. I thought the battle was about a border dispute. The us wanted the texes border at the Rio Grande river and Mexico wanted the border like 100 miles north of the Rio Grande. What am I thinking about then?

This had nothing to do with the US. It was mexico trying to put down what it percieved as a texas "revolt" although any decent history book will point out the inhabitants of texas didn't want to revolt or seperate from mexico lol. Either way the new mexican president percieved it as a full revolt and the president decided to go put it down first hand. Thus Santa Anna and the very abrupt end of the "war" when he was captured by texas troops.
Also yes many US citizens and soldiers did leak into texas to help out.

That encounter was when we marched all the way into mexico and captured mexico city I believe lol. That was the US's way of dealing with the "border dispute" lol.
