I'm going to be in the Southwest deserts for about a week. This includes death valley, grand canyon and just the general desert southwest. I'm driving and most importantly I'll be alone. I'm going to have my precautions in place to combat problems from car breakdown, dehydration, and all that stuff. Are there any reports of people being mugged and killed in this part of the country? if so then I've got to take more measures because I have to go soon.

Why the trip? Business or pleasure?
If pleasure:
If going through NM and AZ, stick to I40 and go to meteor crater(outside winslow) then the grand canyon. After that hit hoover dam if you go towards las vegas or go to lake havasu city if you go towards needles or LA (london bridge is there and i think they do girls gone wild there sometimes).
Make sure to fill up with gas. The closest to danger I got on my trip earlier this year was being chased off by area 51 security. It's a pleasure trip booked on very short notice.
