  • Help! Ideas?

I'm starting to think this V6 Camaro was a huge mistake. I bought it 2 years ago for $7,000

    60k miles

My jobs have been garbage these past years.

I still owe 5 grand on the car, and it runs like sh*t.

    Car has 100k miles now.

    I put 20k a year on it.

It might need a new engine, I hope I can sell it to get atmost 4k out of it... I know its not even worth 5 grand.

The interior is nice but has its small flaws like a cigarette burn.

The exterior is the same... still shines! But has some ugly flaws if you get picky.

    ABS is gone.

I need an engine rebuild. I'm almost positive, the rings are f*cked!

I'm guessing its due to the time the oil pressure sender unit cracked and sprayed oil all over. I didn't notice until the car had no oil left and the light came on. It all happened to fast.

It probably caused a crap load of wear on the cylinder walls.

The transmission is doing well. Rear end is doing well.

    This is just so sad....

    Anyone have any suggestions?

Should I just make it look good and see if some dumbass buys it?

Or should I replace the engine, transmission, rear end with all Z-28 parts?

I'm going to have to blame myself as well as my parents on this one.

They showed me the car, I bought it.

Insurance screwed me out of thousands of dollars.

Atleast I'm not in that big of a hole...

My friend's eclipse has had $3500 in repairs to the drivetrain and misc. parts.

And the new turbo and piping because his old one took a crap.

Not including his new bumper and fenders from the accident.

    And a new tierod.

And not including the connecting rod he just bent last week.

Thats going to be about $5500-$6000 in parts and labor and his car is no faster than it was when he bought it.

I feel bad for him, but he has a job that kicks my jobs *** in the income area. :(

Well, im sure one of you guys have been in this situation..

BTW I do have an FFF kit, I could sell it on ebay or something.

Or i could save it for a rainy day.

    Damn these choices...

If engine is running poorly... and rebuild is in question.... get a salvaged engine.

    Mine was $450

I had the heads and intake ported... and it was just dropped in.

Times in sig with junkyard engine.

      It's already done man...

      I got a spare 3800 series II from a 97 camaro.

Engine has 30k miles on it.

The problem is... No shop, and my dad has become this big BMW pussy. He used to own camaros and trans ams and mustangs and mopars.

He used to rip them all apart and rebuild.

      Now he owns BMW. WTF!!!

You should do it yourself. Shops costs wayyy too much, and you'll learn a lot by doing it yourself.

Honestly, if you've got the tools buy an OFFICIAL shop manual for your car and swap the engine yourself. Hell, for what a shop would charge you, you can buy all the tools you need and a lift and still pocket the money you saved!

Gotta get a "Do it yourself" attitude! ;)

I think I can do it myself, as far as an taking out the 3800 and putting a new one in. I'm not sure if I could do a V8 swap.

                        Well, here is an update.

Good new! No more white smoke. I switched to Castrol GTX high mileage 10w40. The first few days were still white smoke on start ups and high revs.

It seems like now its not burning as much or stopped a considerable ammount of leak where ever it was burning.

But the car is still running like crap.

I have an idea what it is, fuel. It has to be fuel.

Let me ask you guys this, have you ever had a car with a bad fuel pump or fuel injectors that cause your plugs to crap out on you?

I'v only heard this as a rumor, but the reason I ask is because when I put in new plugs, the car runs fine for 2-3 days. Then it starts to loose power and shake again like its having problems with spark or fuel.

The last plugs I took out did not look corroded with anything, but the electordes seemed oddly beat up.

Sometimes the valvestem seals get old and leaky and cause white smoke to puff for a little at the start up, no big deal. My car does it, but still runs fine.
And if all you have is a tune-up problem... thats good. I don't know if your car is different from mine, but the fuel pump is my car is known to go out, yours might have.
