Computer people, ineed your help fast. My brother needed me to fix his computer because he didn't know what was wrong with it. it turns out thatthe hard drive was fried so i got a new one for him, put it in, and then put a different drive as a slave drive (only like an extra 1.xx gig). I didn't put the slave in the mount until everything was working right. so after it all got working i decided to put it in the mount. However the processor was sticking up too far so i have to take the processor off. also while i was in there "under the hood" i put in his new video card and usb 2.0 card. Now after i did all this it decided not to work. The hard drives spin, and the processor fan spins and lights light up, but no video signal is beingsent to the monitor. I tried taking the video card out and using the onboard video and that didn't work, i tried reseating the processor, and i tried taking out the motherboard battery so that it would reset itself back to onboard video instead of the video card.

with all that said,HELP ME i dont know whnat to do and this is the last day i can work on it becase we are leaving tomorrow morning.

Hmm.. Go to your startup sequence.. go to last known good configuration.. But take out the usb 2.0 and the video card..

That should get it back up in running order..

Since you have on board video, its rather tricky to get it to work. I suggest installing the drivers for bother the usb and video card FIRST.. then turning off the computer and going from ther..

Now since u'll have two video cards its gonna take a lot of plugging in and unplugging the monitor from the back of the computer .. u'll prolly have to keep it on the on board video card .. go to device manager, set the NEW video card as primary card.. NOT attatched to the onboard card.. then disable the onboard card. then you should be able to see video from the new video card.

As far as the USB 2.0 card im not sure i never installed one.. but im sure if you install the drivers first it should be a-okay.

    Good luck.

Sorry if i made that difficult to understand

The computer isn't getting that far.

Any POST codes or anything? Beeping, flashing, etc.
Start by putting everything back to the way it was and seeing if it works then. If not, pull out all the unnecessary cards and unhook all the hard drives. If it still doesn't POST, check the memory and cpu again.

He can't go to his last known comfiguration if the computer won't boot.

Taking out the battery for several minutes = clearing the cmos.

I would un-do everything you did. Take the video out, take the USB out, make sure the CPU is seated right, and when you put the heatsink back on DO NOT put it on at an angle to clip one side at a time.

After you do that, if it still does not work try to clear the bios again by using the jumper or taking the battery out for several minutes. Then I'd try both video sources with minimal stuff plugged in and go from there.

The USB might have been having an IRQ problem or something with the video card..

                </font>
Sage advice right here. When troubleshooting a problem, NEVER add more hardware until you get the original problem completely resolved. You obviously have access to a computer and internet,go to his MB manufacturer's homepage and get the manual. Find the actual CMOS reset jumper and reset it the right way. Take out all unneccessary peripherals and start with the bare minimums. If that doesn't work, check your RAM, Processor, then even your power supply. Good luck.

like they said, take everything back to like it was and if it will boot that time then you might not have a powerful enough power supplyfor the video card and USB.

                    or

take everything back out, & let it boot. then put 1 new item on the mo-boad & boot. If it sdoes, shut down & add the next new thing. this way you won't overload teh sys w/new stuff all at once.

ok i did the taking the battery out thing and that didn't work. Hard drives spin, processor fan spins, green light by the motherboard battery is on. How far should the pins on the processor go into the seating? There is just no video signal going to the monitor, however when i first push the power button the light on the monitor turns from orange to green for like 1 second. there is no beeping or flashing coming from the computer tho. I'm stumped on this one, could the processor maybe have gotten a small shock from me, even though i didn't notice one?

BTW i did all this with the usb and video card out

                        OR

punch the tower. thats what I do when my computer is messing up and it works :D Seriously, it does LOL
i think its cause my mobo is going out tho, i hit it to jar it around and let it know I'm serious, if it doesn't work it's getting replaced.

About the shock.. its possible, you're always supposed to touch some bare metal before you work with any electronics.. but I don't think that is the case. Did you try to unplug everything and see boot? unplug the CDROM, the Hard drives, the USB, everything.. just to get something on the screen.
And what kind of mother board is this? MSI has a handy little bracket on the back that gives you error codes

uhh its prolly a zif socket mobo. the processor only goes in one way, u drop it on in (not literally) and push down the latch.. thats all it takes for the processor.

unless your working with a slot 1 or slot A board.. but still it can only go in one way. Dont bother messing with the jumpers.. you'll just make things worse and prolly end up losing a jumper.. then u'r screwed.

Try just putting in the new video card...plug the monitor into that video card, then turn the computer one. There are so many freak'n ways to diagnose a problem. this is why i ****en hate computers.. ah..

You should at lest get the video car bio's to show up on the monitor when you did what i said listed above.. if it goes from the bios to a blank screen..then keep the ocmputer on..and switch the monitor over to the onboard card..

its tricky, you just gotta play around

yeah have you tried both monitor plug in's(IE the onboard and the vid card) before you turned it off? when I put mine in I had to switch back and forth a few times to get everything strait. I think I eventually took the card out and restarted it. then loaded the drivers for the vid card and rebooted. then I rebooted a second time, this time going into BIOS and changing the onboard video setting and it worked.

yea i tried plugging it into each monitor plug in and it didn't work. usually i'm good w/ computers but this one has me stumped. i'm starting to think its the power supply now because when i plug the power cord into the back of the computer the little green light by the cord goes on,but when i push the power button it goes out and the light turns off, then i unplug the power cord for a couple seconds and then plug it back in and the light comes back on and this process repeats w/ no luck ofthe computer turning on.
