A girl at work was called in and put in the jury pool. For an entire week she was put in the pool room waiting for a case with nothing but a fuzzy tv and newspaper. Not my idea of fun.

Jury duty is something every able American can and should do. If nobody does it, the process fails. As a member of this country, be proud to take part in the workings of the judicial system.
There is a good chance you will not be selected anyway. Of the 100 or so they call for the week, only 12 (plus some alternates) get selected.
 he explained it, he had prior plans that coincide with the date </font>[/QUOTE]He said he "may" have plans. I was more reacting to people's general feeling of bailing on Jury duty - as was a handful of posts. Most people, when they hear judy duty, their first thought is "how do I get out of it, I have plans". We all have lives and plans, and sh-t going on, but the system fails that way. Just a pet peeve. I'll take my rant and go elsewhere with it. ;)

Around here they have a well organized system. It's one day or one trial. Often they send you home before the day's up, when they know you won't be needed.
But regardless, I agree with those who say it's your duty as a citizen. If you have a real conflict with plans you've made, they'll generally let you move jury duty to a later date.
i talked to my parents, and also called the court. i need to send in a letter with a deferment. im gunna say im a full time student and i have testings those weeks that cannot for any reason be made up. hopefully itll work.
Dude - if you're going on vacation you're going on vacation. Why lie about the truth when its going to get you out of it? You're going to be out of town, they cant tell you to cancle your trip.

i am traveling, but i havent bought my ticket yet. im going to buy it once i find im out of jury duty or not. im hoping school will be a good excuse. my friend tried getting out of it by saying he would be out of town and they made him show proof, then he showed proof and they made him get it refunded since it wasnt a business related trip.
