Welcome, I would go for the 3.8l just because it has more power out of the box and its easier to get power from. Parts are limited compared to what the v8's have but, you can still get great power out of these motors. 300 brake hp is going to be hard and 300rwhp is going to be even harder to do N/A with out spending some good money. I Dynoed 184rwhp in my 97 A4 camaro and I was running 14.55's in the 1/4. I don't understand why people want to hit a certin hp number and not have other goals tho. Do you want to be a dyno queen or what? If you spend all of you money on the motor to get 300hp and get nothing else, your car will still be slow because you are never going to put it to the ground or handle it. I would think about what you really want to do. I have always liked the camaro a ton better than the firebird, except for the new concept, thats ugly as sin.

The reason I was thinking 300 hp is because I was in a SS camaro and it was fast as hell. I know its not only horse power that makes the speed, but its a goal i would like to achieve. I don't want to be a dyno queen (lol) but would like to go to the drag strip and put down some good numbers.
