hey this is a general topic i felt was not necessary in any forum maybe the audio/electronics but ehh i want peoples opinions on radar detectors, as i cannot buy a valentine or whatnot i am looking for something very decent! i was looking into the cobra brand and possibly this:
Bells are suppose to be really good. I think they're right behind the V1 and Passport, and not too expensive.

ne other suggestions and no other links to 1k radar detectors? what are some good beltronics models are ones under 200 any good? thanks chet
Not sure. But deffinately don't get a cordless. I've heard nothing good about cordless detectors. As the batteries wear down, so does the effectiveness.

i could undertsand that, even though i do have a multiple set of nice rechargable batteries, but yeAH I wil try and check out ebay and see what i can come up with so now i am gonna check out beltronics so you all dont think cobra's are that good?
Chet,
My Beltronics Express 946 Cordless seems to work much better than cheaper units I have owned and it picks up less noise.
I love the cordless because it free up my plug for my cell phone charger. The duplexers look messy too. Mine warns me when the batteries are low (and the effectiveness drops). I use rechargeable batteries in mine. It lasts quite a while before recharging. The cordless is also cool when changing cars which I do a lot.
The worst part of the cordless is when I leave for a long trip and the batteries die. Then I have to go w/o for a few hours until I stop for gas.
im looking into the beltronics 995 it is the 06 model and 2nd best one from what i have researched i can get one just into the 200 dollar range! what ya think?

Sounds like a good deal to me. I think I paid like $180 5 years ago (or so) when the 946 came out.

MANY times. It has paid for itself several times. I don't drive w/o it which is why I like the easy switching of cars. Disclaimer: it's not perfect and your mileage may vary. I rarely go over 90 so I will don't know how well it works when going faster than that.
ive got a bel vector 995. picked it up on ebay for 220$. its the 2nd best bel they offer. i suggest whatever route you go, try to get one with upgradeable software and POP protection. you can direct wire this detector too. here in VA, radar detectors are illegal, and that bad boy is invisible to radar detector detectors. heres some food for thought too... my friend has a valentine 1 and we ran both detectors at the same time in the same car, and the bel was actually more sensitive and predictable than the valentine 1.
