  • My wife's boss is a jack@ss

Her work is suppose to pay for her gas. instead of the IRS standard .41/mile for gas and wear and tear, they only pay .18/mile which barely covers the gas. It's sucks but it atleast covers the gas and gives us a few extra bucks per pay period.

The way this system is suppose to work, is when gas prices go up, the rate per mile is suppose to go up. Well, her boss said they are only raising the rate to .19/mile and it's not going up anymore.

Lets do the math, 15.7 gallons * 14MPG = 219.8 miles per tank. Now we take the current gas price of $2.75/gallon * 15.7 = $43.175 to fill up the tank. Now you take that 219.8 miles * .19/mile = $41.762.

That means every tank of gas she uses for work, she loses $1.413 at current gas prices. She goes through atleast 6 tanks of gas per pay period. Now if gas goes up to 3/gallon here like it's predicted to, she looses $5.33 fo every tank of gas. Thats like $64 a month we lose just in gas for her to work. Figure in maintenance costs, averaged over a year, we lose $117/month . Considering she only brings home around 1000/month thats absolutely rediculous.

Edit: Wait, I forgot she gets around 20MPG with mixed city/hwy. Still, thats barely enough to cover maintenance costs and gas.

    beater...

the saturn I was talking about in the other thread is probably worth $500, and gets 32mpg city. Even has a factory shift light.

but that does suck, I only get .24 a mile, but if I get paid mileage I also get a $25 a day bonus. My mom is a teacher in Broward county and she gets .41 a mile I believe.

Ouch, man! What does your wife do again? Was she in Real Estate?

I ran errands for my company too, but only once or twice a month. They use to pay me .52/mile. Since the gas prices went up, it became .46/mile. Rumor has it that it would go down to .40/mile next month.

Damn huh. Things are so messed up.

At the firm that I work for, we get paid 44.5/mile. When gas prices go up, we get paid more per mile. I think the most we've gotten paid was about 48.5/mile. For about every $100 I make from driving, I spent about $15 on gas. Works out pretty good for me.

          She's a school photgrapher.

The problem with getting her a small beater, is she has an buttload of equipment to haul around and it barely fits in the mustang. When I say barely fits, I mean **** in the trunk, in the backseat, and the front passenger seat. We were looking at getting a big truck for her next season, but she would get even less milage in that. If they don't change their mind, and bump the milage, we're gonna have to look at something else. Maybe a focus wagon or something.

Yea, right now, we have to unload everything just to use the stang for anything on the weekend.

The new car has to be big enough so that the equipment can stay in and the car still can be a useable family car. It's a fvcken PITA to load and unload that thing every weekend.

Uh, because they should be paying for her gas. :slap:

Make sure she logs all mileage.

She may be able claim the rest of the IRS rate during taxes.

She is, since her work isn't giving her the standard IRS mileage rate, then her miles are tax deductable.
