You realize it takes more gas to start your car then to let it idle, right?

Depends on the stopped time of course, and that may be true for a cold engine but it's not true for an engine at operating temperature if you don't hit the gas. Killing the engine at a stoplight _will_ save gas, which is why some new cars do it. But how much and whether it will have a bad effect on your starter or something else on a car not designed to do it are open questions.

There was an indepth thread about it on her a few years ago, and the concensus was unless your sitting there for like 10-15 minutes you're wasting gas by killing the car.

Re: Saving Gas method that works

i've always heard that when you shut off your car or turn on the car, you use an equivalent of 2 - 3 minutes of gas at idle. So unless your passenger is takin a dump or the light is really LONG, then you would actually lose 4 - 6 min of gas turning it off and on. The best thing for me is to make sure the air filter is clean, take off slow, pick up speed before goin up hill, and lay off the air condition and use the windows.

as for mine, i get 21 - 26 in town, if you get 32 in town then you need to give us your secret i might get that in the highway.
