As the topic says my drivers side t-top flew off on the highway on my way to work today. What a great Easter present lol. I was completely shocked. I just rolled my window down and WHOOSH!! Into the air it went!! When it hit the ground it practically exploded into a thousand pieces of glass. Incredible. I know where I can find some but I'm kinda curious if anyone else has had this happen? Im positive mine was latched as I havent removed them in over 7 months. Anyone else have a good "I lost my t-top" story?

Re: T-Top flew off on the highway.....
I have heard of this happening, not exactly how it happens. Get an engineer in here or something to answer that. However, I did see a Supra's top fly off at the track, and they do make quite a mess. Sorry about that happening man, and I know this sounds kinda lame now but happy easter. By the way was anyone behind you?

Re: T-Top flew off on the highway.....
Happened to me, too...
I was doing about 110mph on the autobahn at night, suddenly it became very noisy inside the car - i looked to the passenger side and saw the moon and the stars..... the t-top was gone!
Thank god it hit the ground first before it hit the car behind me, scratched his hood and cracked his windshield. The guy had just picked up the car from the dealer brand new and was on his way home... and i caused $7000 of damage to it :( But at that speed it could also easily have killed someone.
I have no clue why exactely it happened. At that speed the windows get sucked slightly towards the outside because they´re pretty worn out and stop putting pressure onto the t-tops, so if the lock failes (or me stupid forgot to lock it?) that´s the moment they will start to fly...
Oh, and it was pretty hard to get a new one over here in Europe, but when i finally got one (from poland! *g*) i noticed that the "holes" in the frame were pretty much misaligned. Probably that caused the accident, don´t know.
1994 Yellow Firebird 3.4L V6 5spd
Borla, RandomTech Cat, Morroso CAI, MSD DIS-4, MSD coils, ported TB, TB Bypass, relocated IAT, 180° Thermo, Eibach Pro Kit, Bilstein HDs, ES bushings,RAM HD clutch

Re: T-Top flew off on the highway.....
Haha. Happy Easter to you too man. No one was directly behind me but there was a truck in the lane to my right. He saw everything lol. Thank god it didnt hit anyone! I think the salvage yard in my city has a few. Either that or I could pick one up off eBay. Thanks for the sympathy everyone!99 Pewter Firebird
Many mods coming soon....
http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/847744
-----------------

Re: T-Top flew off on the highway.....
I had this happen to me about a year ago. I was going about 65 down the interstate and all of a sudden WOOSH! I looked up and saw the t-top flying away. Scared the crap out of me. I pulled over got out of my car expecting too see thousands of peices all over the road. Nope nothing. I walked around a bit and saw it lying on the side of a hill near a bridge I just crossed. Found the t-top but not the shade. Looked a bit more for the shade and ended up finding that underneath the bridge. All that happend was one little scratch. Thank goodness there was grass and mud to absorb the hit. Don't know how it happen. I could have sworn I looked it up. Sorry to hear about your story. Hope you have a good easter.-Travis-

1999 Hugger Orange Camaro-stock
http://www.cardomain.com/ride/763509

Re: T-Top flew off on the highway.....
This is common when one forgets to turn the handle.
Every single thread I've read about it has someone describing a whooshing sound just before it happens.
I almost had it happen to me once. I heard a whooshing and fortunately slammed the brakes - no more whoosh and t top still intact.I solemnly swear I am up to no good.

Lol yeah it does make for a great story. Kind of an expensive story but good nonetheless! I'm going to the salvage yard tomorrow so I'll have to give you guys an update on how much they raped me haha.99 Pewter Firebird
Many mods coming soon....
http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/847744
-----------------

Re: T-Top flew off on the highway.....
i just cant imagine a t-top flying off by itself even if it is latched but not locked, idk about everybody else's but my handles are hard enough to turn myself, let alone of the wind mysteriously did it. i would have to say you have some major chassis problems and in such case you would have benefited from subframe connectors, OR the little nut holding the bracket on came loose and it decided to move whereever it felt like and let go of your t-top
