Check w/ your school if they have a "student" license for MS Office 2004. I got my copy from the University of Texas [when I was still a student]. Cost me like $12 for 5 programs bundled together.

Apple = nothing but problems? You musn't work with computers much then.
Apple = simple. I never looked back...

If your school doesnt offer the student licensing, then best bet is pick up the Student and Teacher edition which will run $150, or there are illegal options but I dont know anything about that, I swear!

If you look around you can pick up Student and Teacher Edition for less too. I think mine was $109 on sale at Circuit City, you can legally install that version on three computers. It's exactly the same thing as Standard Edition, but it's a lot cheaper.

I haven't picked up a copy yet, but I know my school sells Office Pro to students for $89 too but you have to ask for it at the counter.

Edit: You probably won‘t find Student and Teacher for Mac in most stores. I know my school still has the $89 licensing program for Mac though, and you could probably order the Student version.

either go to the online Apple store (they have student discount), and get office 2004 student/teacher edition ($150 without student discount), or macmall and pick up a copy. So, which laptop did you get? I just got my powerbook about a month ago and it's been nothing less than pure sex for me (I think I might have a problem- Apple is like crack to me). Soo...
Let me know what other problems you're having with it, and I might be able to help you out.

Welcome to the Apple world :D If you have an iBook 14" model, be warned of the logic board problem and the stinky keyboard. Any 12" Apple laptop does not have issues, nor does the big boys that I know of.. only the 14" ibooks.

My friend had a bad logic board on her laptop about a year or so ago, and I'm almost positive it was a PowerBook (titanium case). Might have just been an isolated incident though. A friend dropped it between when it started having problems and her sending it in, so they charged her for the replacement. That wasn't cheap.

The logic board on the 15" aluminum powerbook, I am assuming is pretty well off. I have spilled beer on my keyboard once, water the second time, and it has never fried the logic board. Although I had to have the keyboard replaced both times, and the left speakers once.

LB on a TiBook would be isolated incident. I've seen HDD go bad in those first before anything else.

And, yes... LB's are expensive from Apple. AppleCare is good for items like this. it's not like a PC you can just run and get a new board.
