I have a v7 model: SCPH-39001 PS2 with a Magic 3.1 (newest chip avail back in the day) soldered to it. It worked fine when I needed it to, havent played it in 2 maybe 3 weeks.

Here's the problem. When I hit the reset button the green light turns on and the fan in the back spins, so it sounds like its working. but nothing ever happens. The blue light on the eject button never comes on. It acts like its hung up booting or something. It will not eject at all or 'completely' turn on.

I've tried turning it off then in the back. I've tried resetting it several times. I even opened it up to check the connections. As I said before, I've had this for several years. Its never been reopened since the chip was put in. Was not dropped recently either. Honestly my guess is the chip is fried so the main board never loads the bios from the magic chip, which in turn just stalls everything. But I have no idea how the chip got messed up (if it did) and there were no visible burn marks or anything to suggest it as well.

I've been out of the modding scene for a while so I dont know of any good sites to further pursue this. Anyone have any idea as to what the problem could be? or at least a manual way of opening the cd-rom drive to get my game out :)

I believe there is a manual eject hole on the back. You will need to find something small enough to slide in there. When mine locked up the manual eject didn't work so the guys at the store just ripped off the top gave me my disc and a new PS2. Of course that probably isn't an option for you.
