Racetrac gas pump ripped me off (orlando)

Just filled up half hr ago. Had a little left in the tank, maybe a gallon. The pump kept going until it was at $51.00....I'm looking at that and saying "wtf"?? Look at the amount I pumped and it was at 17.56 gal.

Wait a minute....I know it doesn't take that much. Look in the owner's manual to be sure, even though I knew already, and lo and behold it's supposed to be 15.5 gal. And no I didn't keep pumping after it stopped or put anything in another container, or spill any. I mean come on, 3 gallons over? Not cool.

I go inside and talk to the clerk. I show her in the manual what the tank physically can hold and she pulls up a receipt and it shows how much it put in. She didn't really know what to say, but I got the store manager's name and store phone #.

I'll be calling them later to find out what they're doing about it or if I have to get "higher powers" on their ***. I mean just think how many other people they ripped off even today or however long it's happened. Just be careful at gas pumps and make sure you read how much you put in.

WTF? which racetrack was this?!?!?!?! If they give you one bit of hassle of giving you trouble, go to any locl news stations, and they will eat this up. Last time gas prices were high a guy at a local chevron got busted putting hose water in the tanks.

Your tank holds 15.5, but you will also have some in the filler hose - not sure what that is for our cars, but that can account for about a gallon plus or minus.

How did you know your car had exactly one gallon in it?

17.56 - 15.5 = 2.01 not 3.

i doubt even if the entire fuel system was dry it would hold an extra 2 gallons in the lines.
they ripped you off, that is bullcrap. i saw a special on like discovery or something one time about gas pumps that do that.. it's on a switch or something so they can make the price/and gallons different to get more money.

keep us posted, or i can just watch the news haha.

I've put 16.4.. and that was when it was BONE DRY... maybe .1 gallon to spare.

IIRC some years have a 15.5 gal tank while others have a 16.8 gal tank.

Yup, been there before as well. Sound like the pump was miscalibrated.

I know that when i hit a 1/4 of a tank that im gonna be putting 12 gallons in. I always watch the pump, never had a reason to but always do anyway.

same here only got 16 in and that was filling it up and shanking the car to get al lthe air out of it and filled it till it came out the filler neck

no the 97 definitely has a 15.5 gal tank....i don't know exactly how much was in it, but it still should not have gone over 15.5 gal!!!! stopped by again after work tonight to see if store mgr was in, and no he'll be in soon bla bla bla...

I'm calling them today and/or stopping by to find out what is going on with them

BTW for you locals it's the racetrac on alafaya just north of Colonial toward UCF.

I'm going to tell them they need to calibrate their frickin pumps and next time I fill up there I'm getting it on video and reporting it to all the news stations.

Yes it should. The size of the tank does not include the filler pipe which is usually around a gallon give/take.

you still have a valid case, but keep your facts straight when you go to argue with the manager.

but he still had gas in the tank from bone dry 16 is the most i have ever put in

Oh, I know. but he said "i don't know exactly how much was in it, but it still should not have gone over 15.5 gal!". I was saying it is possible to go over 15.5 since he had no idea how much was in the tank.

My point being, if you are going to go argue with a store manager, have 100% of the facts.
