You gotta be kidding. With its' superb suspension design and decent motor, the Civic is _the_ cheap sporty car. Go to an autocross sometime. Infinite aftermarket mods, too. The Mazda is no slouch, either.

If you mean it's gotta _look_ sporty, Hyundai Tiburon is clearly the best in your price range. But the Civic will have it for lunch at autocross.

if i were you i would get something like this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEED-...QQcmdZViewItem

then spend the other 3-4k (hense your budget is 15K) for a turbo (maybe a TRD one :) ) .....thats it ....sweet little-awesome looking-nice handling- sports car that gets good gas mileage and drive pretty reasonable (speedwise).....but offcourse that's just my opinion

For a commuter car i'd go with a lincoln mark8 or maybe a lincoln LS. Very confortable ride and good performance. I may have a biased opion cause i had a 93 t-bird for 3 years before i got the camaro. But i have only good things to say about that car. It got to 270 000km on the stock 3.8 wich is pretty good considering the -40 degree winters we get over here.

Not looking for one, just curious.
I am going to slap $3,100 on it and see what people offer. So far the only people that looked just wanted to see it and didn't have a pot to piss in as far as money goes.

just a idea for you to look at. it is quick for a 3.4 and quiet and smooth. dont know if that is what you are lookin for but an idea at least.
I may check one out. Worth a shot right?

As far as miles and age, low miles because I'll be putting a ton on the car. I don't care about the age as long as it isn't a POS.

But my location says NY... ;) Would you trust an SRT-4 as your main commuter car, at least 70 miles a day, usually much more. Im guessing the gas mileage is prob crappy too no?

Wait wait, who's kidding now? My g/f has a 2000 2 door EX civic. I absolutley hate it. It's extremley uncomfortable, its extremley cheap on the inside, it screams im the low end Honda vehicle, and I've never felt a 4 cylinder more balless than these. I'd never say any of this to her face though because she loves it. I borrowed her car last week and I swear my testes shriveled up and I started producing estrogen. It probably handles so well on a track because you can never get the speed above 45 mph. Alright, maybe im exagerating a little, but driving the civic was no different than driving a focus I got stuck with renting. Far from being a GM leg humper, but a much better sporty sedan/coupe is a grand am. Just my opinion anyways! Haha.

Re: Bye bye Bird, but now what do I get???

P.S. - I appreciate all the suggestions by the way. I want to modify my requirements a bit. The vehicle will be travelling long distances often. It will have to be reliable and comfortable for loooong trips. I just don't want an old woman car. Like sure, a Buick would be great for long trips, but cmon, lol. What about a newer Grand Am GT? They get crap for gas mileage though I think. And hows the reliability?

i know you said you really wern;t into sedans but i would look for a 03 olds aurora i think thats hte last year they made them. nice v8 in it great interrior i bet it would be great on long trips they only problem is i dunno about the gas mileage because it is a v8 and you'd haveto find one.

Just for grins I googled "autocross times civic". This was the very first relevant site I found:

                        http://www.sff.net/people/dburkhead/...oss_ambush.htm

Civics competed in three classes, H Stock, STS (Street Touring Sedan?) and Street Mod. They won them _all_, with times that were great compared to most everything else in any class.

They're quick little cars, especially with a few readily available mods. Better technical design than most anything in the class.

Your girldfriends car may be beat up. Go to a Honda dealer and test a 2006 Civic coupe. I'll bet you're impressed.

took it on a long distance trip to fl. about a 6 hour drive total. very comfy and didnt use a whole tank of gas. wen i filled up i had a litle over 1/4 tank left, and i average about 150 miles on a 1/4 tank city/highway combined.

as for the comfort, i have a bad back and i cant sit to long in any postiton but drivin the impala that long gave me no probs. just my 2 cents. the best part is the huge trunk.

I actually thought of an RSX immediately before I read it in your post. That would be my suggestion, maybe an RSX S? They look pretty sweet, get decent gas mileage, and are pretty quick.
