Ask her. Theres no easy way to just get her password. Maybe a keylogger?

I think he's asking how he can find out who used his sister's account, not how to get her password. I don't think that's possible though.

It's been a while, but I used to just go into the command prompt, and type "netstat", while using yahoo messenger. Not sure if it works with aim (I'm on a Mac), but worth a try.

              Just a question though, why?

And IP address have NOTHING to do with getting someones password. And the only way you can get someones IP address, is your directly connected to them. And once you have it, you can't really do anything with it, unless you know what your doing. And from the sounds of it, you don't know what your doing.

There are programs that will trace an IP for you, but all thats going to tell you is the town they live in and what company they are getting their service from.

she probably logged in at someone's house or something and forgot to uncheck the automatic login box so wherever she was the password was saved

netstat will report any existing networking connection and connection state. This helps in no way knowing who logged into his sister's account.

AOL should have records of who logged on from what IP address and when. Otherwise, there is no way to tell.

Not that they'd hand them over or anything...

If your directly connected to the person, netstat will show you their IP address.

For currently open (or past TCP connections still in TIME_WAIT state). However, this dude wanted to look into the past for someone who connected to AOL. Netstat won't help there.

                              Re: Tracing IP for AIM

If you want to get someone's IP that's on AIM, my cousin and I did this one time...
Run netstat to make a note of the connections you currently have.
Invite your friend to a direct connection, trick them if you have to.
Run netstat again once they are connected. If you do it right and within a short period of time from the first time you ran it their IP will be in the list...

Now as far as matching the IP to where they are, this is tricky.
Matching IP addresses to geographical locations is (I believe) usually done by looking up the company that has registered the IP address (such as your ISP). This is probably why camaro_speedemon's ISP showed him as in Houston. Depending on the ISP and how much info you need this may work, but if you have to go further you can follow the FBI's procedure and get a subpoena to obtain records from the ISP that shows which customer was on that IP address at a certain time. Good luck with that ;)
