Yes, but you sacrifice poor interface and ugly hardware.
Thats up for debate. I think there are other music players that look much better, and won't freeze/break as much. I know this from using my friend's video iPod. After encoding a few videos into .mp4 format with Videora, it would freeze every time we played them on the iPod. Only a very few would work. And why did Apple not add support for more common video types (.avi, .mpg, maybe even .vob)?

i was the biggest anti-ipod critic for so long. my parents bought me a 30gig video ipod for christmas, and i love it. i swore that i would never get one, now i wont put it down. its one of those things where even if you dont personally like it, you have to respect it for what it is. the 30gig can hold around 8,000 songs. it can hold full movies, has amazing video quality, etc. it weighs virtually nothing can stick it in a pocket. i have the transpod, i plug it into my cigarette lighter, dock the ipod in it, it charges it for me, and transmits crystal clear. i also have the i-fusion stereo system thing. it looks like a miniature briefcase, unzip it, open it up, its the dock, and 2 speakers built into the case, you can stick it in a backpack and use it wherever, as it has a battery also.
i have a program that converts videos into mp4 or whatever the ipod file type is. (if anyone wants it, hit me up on AIM).

I admit I woudl never buy one, and I never did but I did ask for one...
I opted for the 30 gig video... I wanted something about 10 gigs. They don't make a Nano that size so I went up to 30 gig. I love it. I am starting to get into the video part of it. But I love it.
BUt like I said I wouldn't buy it(I have a thing against buying anything sold at best buy*) But it is a DEFINITE awesome present.

As for the video freezing up... I think you need a different encoder. I've seen many that are garbage while working with video editors. Anything worth using, is worth paying for when it comes to compressed video!

i just found it two days ago and my sister is picking it up tomorrow. its a mini, 4 gigs i think. i dont know if it was just mine or if all of them are like that but i felt that the battery would die kind of fast.
I have a 20gb Iriver h320 and love it. I really like how you can drag and drop files, I use it to transfer/save files for friends and family all the time. I believe ipods need to have their software installed on the pc to transfer files, which I would really hate. Mine plays music, videos, pictures, transfers files, radio and also has a digital recorder built in. I actually used the recorder once when my friends got pulled over just incase the cop said something stupid.
I ONE reason why I would buy an ipod and it is a really great reason is because every audio company supports ipod interfaces. I would love to be able to control my mp3 player through a head unit.
well i dont have it anymore so i cant check the serial number but i am positive its gen 1 but my other sister has the same one as i do, we got them together and she just told me that she read somewhere that its supposed to last 18 hours but i remember mine dieing after 5 hours.
Johnny... we need to get you one... have your kids show you what they are. You'll love it while riding out in the country on the bike. Nothing like a little rock-n-roll while cruising along :D
