• a stupid question about "the hump"

I know this is going to sound stupid, but what is the purpose of that big hump in the floor on the passenger side? I just find it annoying and pointless. Is there a reason for it?

Re: a stupid question about "the hump"

To make room for the catalytic converter.

Or because the engineers liked explaining it to every passenger that sits in the car. :p

It's on some other GM cars too. The blazer is one I believe. You would think they could figure out something else on a vehicle where ride height isn't an issue.

Nah, Matt is right. It's the catalytic converter. Take a look under your car and you can see exactley what is going on there.

          * edit this post looks really stupid since the post it was in response to was deleted.

Well, this is my take on it. I believe they put it there as a deturrent for passengers, so you dont have any unnecessary weight. :)

HA! Thats so true, I just like hearing my friends complain and than tell them the hump is actually an airbag....... that throws them off...... (P.S. I dont really do that, Im just feeling a little crazy right now.)
