    Re: Turbo V6 vs LT1 vs LS1 ??????

Okay here is what I found.

rwhp for stock LS1 on MUSTANG dyno: ~230
rwhp for stock LS1 on DYNOJET dyno: ~291 (ls1tech.com)

I called a dyno shop here in town who uses a Mustang dyno and they rate horsepower differently than do Dynojets. He can however calculate flywheel hp from his Mustang dyno and it comes out to exactly what is advertised.

Dynojets are MUCH more popular and cheaper. Are Dynojets better than Mustang dynos? No, they just work differently. The guy explained how they worked differently but it was way over my head with all the physics and stuff.

Example: My Dad's 96 LT4 Corvette. Mustang dyno...263 rwhp. It then ran a 13.69 the very next day. There is nothing wrong with the car, but the dyno showed way less horsepower than what is advertised which is 330 (flywheel). I will ask him for those slips and charts too, he has them.

Conclusively, no, fbodies dont lose 25% of their flywheel horsepower, but they show lower numbers (25% less) on a Mustang dyno as compared to a Dynojet. I have only seen Mustang dyno numbers and it wasnt until tonight that I found out there is a difference.

Thats what I'm talkin about!! I am not crazy I swear! LOL

When I dyno my car I will do it on a Mustang cuz the tuner there is f'ing awesome and has done some really sweet racecars in the past. He's cheap too. I just want a good tune and let track times do the talking. ;)

          Re: Turbo V6 vs LT1 vs LS1 ??????

Sorry but LS1 does not dyno over 300 stock. Check out LS1 on GM High Po Dec. 2005.

          LS1= 272 rwhp on F-body 286 tq.
          = 278 rwhp on Vette 290 tq.
          These are stock numbers.

Ofcourse Vette would dyno better because of exhaust and intake than F-body.

I would have to crank out 8psi with my Powerdyne in order to match that number. Wait till I get the intercooling thing going, then I'll be way up.

But we've gotten out of hand. The question was based on gas mileage of TV6 vs. LT1 vs. LS1 Ofcourse the TV6 would win this category.

Car made 325rwhp with a lid, so yes I do. There are some LS1's that did dyno ~320rwhp stock, try searching an LS1 site.

Mustang Dyno's typically dyno 5-7% lower than dynojets. What was the DA on those pulls? Were they SAE or STD?

Well I must be smoking the chronic along with the tech's at PSI and the hundreds of other LS1s that have dyno'd similar.

Here's a little education for you:
LS1's are about 345-350 crank horsepower. The auto's typically dyno 280-295rwhp and lose about 20% through drivetrain loss. I saw Infernal dyno his '98 Z28 auto at 285rwhp at AIS3. Manual LS1's dyno around 300-320rwhp.

The 98-00 LS1's had a different cam and intake than the 01-02 LS1's. The LS6 intake was put on these cars and they dyno'd 5-10rwhp higher. I imagine my car put down around 315rw bone stock.

Gee that's funny, guess my lid gave me 50rwhp. And all of the other stock LS1's claiming 300-325rw all have big cams and didn't mention them. BTW, an M6 Fbody will dyno higher than an M6 Vette due to the IRS

Hey bro, I told you about the misconception and manned up by saying I was wrong. I did my homework already. Some of that info you spouted off I think is still incorrect for fbodies, but truthfully, I dont care. Its already way off topic like MT said.

maybe the 97-00 stock ls1's dyno less then 300rwhp stock but from 01-02 fbody' s dyno over 300 stock.. my 02 WS6 put down 330rwhp and 350rwtq with just a cat back and lid!! and the vettes dyno lower just like the LS1 powered GTO's.. The reason being is probably because of the IRS rear..

                      Re: Turbo V6 vs LT1 vs LS1 ??????

I would say go turbo 6!! There is just something about the sound of a 3.8 turbo gm car!!

And you will get better gas miles then a LS1 or LT1.. the highway miles will be close to the same but around town the V6 will own the V8's!! I miss the days of getting 25mpg around town in my V6.. My LS1 gets maybe 20mpg around town, and thats with the stock 3.42's.. I get between 250-300 mp tank with around town driving.. in my Heads and cam V6 with 4.10's and one less gear I would get 375-400 mp tank.. On the highway I get about 400-425 mp tank in the WS6, in my old V6 I would get 450-475mp tank..
