  • THe significance of May 5th

Hellmann's Mayonnaise was originally manufactured in England. In fact, the Titanic was carrying 12,000 jars of the condiment scheduled for delivery to Vera Cruz, Mexico, which was to be the next port of call for the great ship after its stop in New York. This would have been the largest single shipment delivered to Mexico.

But as we know, the great ship did not make it to New York. The ship hit an iceberg and sank, and the cargo was forever lost.

The people of Mexico, who were crazy about mayonnaise and were eagerly awaiting its delivery, were disconsolate at the loss. Their anguish was so great that they declared a National Day of Mourning, which they still observe to this day.

The National Day of Mourning occurs each year on May 5th and is known, of course, as Sinko de Mayo

IF you were offended by my comment I was just kidding, didn't mean anything by it. Sorry. I have no problem with immigrants of any race or from any country. I do have a problem with illegal immigrants who try to cheat the system, but that's an issue for our other thread.

Most Americans do not care about protecting the southern border of Mexico to help stop illegal immigration. and no, the southern border of Mexico is a pretty secure border by Mexico cause they don't want people from the south walking into their country either. so, your statement is flawed. I respect your heritage and that your an American, but we have a huge problem with illegal immigration which does make them criminals because they did come into this country illegally. I am aware of the fact that the countries low wage jobs are substantially filled by illegal immigrants and there would be a disruption if they were removed, but it would be minor. It has been shown and i agree, that most Americans including legal immigrants would rather pay more for a product like vegetables, fruit and meat than listen to the news about illegal immigrants illegallydemanding rights and citizenship when you can not legally protest unless you are a citizen. I believe the illegal immigrants brought the attention of the whole country onto themselves when they started protesting. they were a small issue to the publics attention until then. also, the problem with illegal immigrants these days is that the country is starting to run out of jobs for unskilled people to do. there are only so many farms, manufacturing businesses and restaurants in this country. we have to regulate this problem a lot better than the past. and another thing, whats with these people complaining about being kicked out of this country now when the government said whoever is here now, can stay. did anyone listen? no, the protested and complained that they were going to be arrested, deported and their American kids would be sent to a home. and guess what people, most Americans don't care that your 5 brothers 4 sisters, 21 cousins and so on and so forth didn't make it to America yet and we are trying to keep them out which is the law and such. for the love of me people, learn to speak the American language! you can not go to another country, like lets say a country in Europe and try to get through your life speaking American English. they will just not interact with you. sure, you might be able to speak well for quite some time, but at least try. I want to point out a thought I had about the businesses who hire these illegal immigrants, whom should be fined/jailed. If there were no more illegal immigrants, then businesses would not have an opportunity to pay lower wages and would then be forced to pay higher wages not only to stay in business but to follow the laws minimum wage that Americans and legal immigrants would accept as an adequate pay and would take the jobs. Its not the jobs that Americans wont take, its the pay. I know for a fact that there are a lot of people who would be willing to work these types of jobs right out of high school if they were payed a decent wage to feed them and live off of. remember people when you graduated from high school and you know who wasn't going to college. Its those types that would work these jobs instead of living with their parents until they are 27.

anyone feel free to be offended :p
