  • Wow, David Blaine

Did you any of you guys caught his act last night on ABC?

He held his breath for 7.08 min. He didn't break the record which was 8.58 min. But I think he could have if he didn't have to unchain himself which caused him to use up his energy which means using up is reserved Oxygen.

But I think being in that bubbled water for 7 days had affected him from not breaking the record either. Unusually when a diver had been under water for too long, their nitrogen level goes up. I think that's what happened to Blaine too.

But his magical illusions are pretty awesome. Did you guys see that part where he took two of the lady's teeth out with his hands and then put it back in there by blowing in her mouth. Or about how people's cell phones were ringing to reveal to them what card they had picked out.

How does he do that? http://www.channel4.com/entertainmen.../david_blaine/

I'm a huge sceptic of Blaine, he is a very talented performer. But I don't see how people can believe in magic.....

I saw the show last night, pretty incredible. I don't think anyone believes that Blaine actually does "magic" : he just pulls off some insane tricks that are difficult to figure out.

I didn't see any of it off hand... i don't watch a lot of tv, and what i do watch is usually worth it (ie. House or Top Gear). But on the radio this morning they were talking about what a whimpy ****** he was. I guess they're big beef was with all the hype leading up to this 2 hour special where a guy holds his breath for 7 mins, fails to break a world record, and breaks down and cries on national tv... That and the fact that the american public eats this stuff up like its cocaine candy. Personally i've got no problem with the guy or what he tried to do... but i'd say that its a pretty sad week in the world when i guy attempting to break the world breath holding record is one of the top stories.

The best I ever held my breath under water was a minute and a half and I was doing this in a relax position.

The radio DJ's you listen too are called pessimist. They usually only talk about negative things. That's why you shouldn't listen to them.

I think he would have broken the record if he didn't have to unchained himself. I think he would've went on to 10min. That was a big mistake on their part. But other than that he was awesome.

On top of that, the guy has been in water for 7 days. The minute he got out of the water he was walking. Try being in a pool for 3 hours and getting out of it. Your body just feels heavy. I can't imagine his.

We could appreaciate something real, like the miners who spent 2 weeks underground while they dug them out.

Yes, this was sugested from a radio show, but I'm sure that divers without tank that go down on one breath alone come close to the record all the time.

Yea i was actually thinking about that when the story was on the radio... i thought that it was those pearl divers that had all the records to do with breath holding... i mean its their livelyhood.

What was the reason for the chains. I watched it and did understand why. Anyone?

He is an actor/illusionist. His job is to fool people. Thats what he gets paid to do. Without intensive, and I mean intensive as in several years worth of, training that stunt will never be done. I do not believe it for 2 reasons. 1- if he was breaking a world record wouldnt the people from guinness be there? cuz they werent. And 2- more importantly, how long can the average human brain go without oxygen? I'll give you a hint... definitly not 7min!!!

I have to second this motion. I was watching Ripley's Believe It or Not the other day (and i know that show is not really the benchmark of verifiable material) and they had these two professional free divers competing with each other to see who could hold their breath the longest. Bare in mind these are professional free divers, they've trained their whole lives to hold their breath, and the best either of them could manage was 4 and a half minutes. So i'm calling :bs: on Mr. Mestopholes.
