Has anyone else seen the latest Motor Trend? I have a subscription and I love it! :) For anyone that hasn't seen it, they did a comparison between the baseline Corvette Z06 and five other cars: the Hennessey Viper, Lingenfelter TT Corvette, the Livernois Mustang GT, Accufab Ford GT, and the MTI Pontiac GTO. Motor Trend included several categories (1/4 mile, chassis dyno, slalom, braking from 60-0 and 100-0, etc.) However, the standing mile category caught my attention in particular.

They said in the article to forget the '60s, right NOW is the golden age of horsepower, and I have to agree considering they have to do a standing mile test for the fastest cars. Anyway, the Lingenfelter completed the standing mile in 27.2 @ 211.7 mph! The Viper did it in 26.2 @ 217.9 mph! As I said before, forget the '60s! These are 9-second cars out of the box with slicks and a good driver.

if i remeber right the vette had a hard time cuz it kept smoking the tires through 3rd gear, and some where near the end of the testing it shreded its stock rear dif. but yeah i'd take either of those cars any day.

      Theory of relativity.

Back then, those cars were fast, period. Also, to run 9s out of the box you need in excess of 75000 dollars, i'm pretty sure even with inflation, cars back then were not $75000. It was about big hp for minimal money on a brand new car or a car that was only a few years old.

So my opinion, are cars today fast? Yes. But you cannot discount the '60s, without the '60s, these cars would never of existed.

It is insane how much HP tuners can pump into these machines. The Vette, and Viper sounded like crazyies that could fly off the face of the planet.

I was at Walmart last weekend and I just skimmed right thru the article. If I remember right, didn't the Ford GT do a good job on the run. Vette and Viper were not hooking up.

But on the dyno the VIper was way over 1000hp to the wheels.
