  • Has anyone noticed a drastic mpg change recently?

I definitely have. I've noticed that the last three tanks of gas gave me 20 to 30 miles more out of the tank than usual. My driving patterns don't change much from week to week, and I almost always pull exactly 295 to 305 miles out of a tank of Sunoco 93 octane with my normal combination of city and highway driving. I got 329 miles out of this last tank, and that trend has been going on for over a month, now.

I've read that the government is considering or has already suspended some of the federal emissions standards on gasoline refinery in order to cut down on the cost of fuel, so I'm wondering if perhaps that has been done and the engine is making better use of the new mixture? Just a theory.

    Anyone else experiencing this?

No kidding... I'll have to keep an eye on it and see what happens. Because of the gas prices, I've been ignoring it so I don't cry when I fill up, haha.

BTW... I see you on route 5 heading east quite a bit now. Id say just before 5 ish. Just curious if the bland cavalier (my black goat) ever catches your attention like your car grabs mine every time, haha.

Oddly enough, I have too. Last year I would get 19-20mpg, this year I'm getting 25ish. I don't think I'm driving much different, but who knows.

Haha, yep. I've seen you many times on 5, I just never made the connection. :)

My last day at that job was actually Wednesday, so I'll be commuting to downtown Albany and back, now. :(

Well, now we are running the "summer" blend which seems to get better mpg vs, "winter" blend.

Also, colder air = engine dumping more fuel in.... it's warmer now.

Also, I have heard that the amount of ethanol being added to gasloine has been raised.

this is what I was going to mention but i wasnt quite sure if the ethanol raised gas mileage or not. I have notice an increase. I have gone from my tank lasting two weeks to three with the same driving habits.

I have noticed better mpgs as well. however I have definitly changed my driving habbits. I'm older now and I'm not the young kid that would gas it when a ricer blew by me. Now I just laugh and shake my head at the stupidity.

Coming home from school is a 4 hour drive and I went 70-80 the whole time. Got about 26mpg. Not too bad for mostly highway and going that fast. Plus I dumped a can of seafoam in the tank (LOVE that stuff!).
