...new roof for my house. Yeah , not very exciting, but the cost is amazing. Hurricane Wilma totalled our existing roof tiles.

We're finally getting near the top of the list to have the old tiles removed. Weather permitting, thiat is supposed to begin tomorrow. We're working our way up the waiting list for the factory to produce the new tiles. After the new tiles are delivered, then we will be on the waiting list for the tiles to be installed.

And yes, the cost is covered by insurance.
I solemnly swear I am up to no good.

Actually, not. The hurricane season starts June 1. We'll be lucky if the roof is done by September 1.

There are lots and lots of people who are even further back on the waiting lists than us. And compared to the northern Gulf coast, we've got it really easy.

That is a seriously expensive roof! Around here, a basic shingle roof will run 5 - 10 grand depending on the shingles. Those must be some expensive tiles.

Just curious, why are you going with tiles? Just for looks, or do they hold up better in high winds?

          $5-10,000 roof in FL LOL...

Yeah my parents got theirs, I think it was $32,000. We were lucky though. WE had a leak in our old roof and had a section repaired maybe a month before wilma hit, we lost all the shingles except for the repaired section. But we had a roofers business, home and cell number and he knows our checks cleared fast.

We got ours amazingly fast compared to others. It worked out kind of, we were looking at getting a new roof anyways, it was the original, 19 years old, same shingles the went through Hurricane Andrew in '92 :)

Now our fence is rediculous, still on a waiting list. 6 months, just to get a freaking fence put up in our backyard.

FWIW we were quoted $25k for my Grandmas house in Northern Indiana, and her house is small as hell but it does have a few steep peaks.

Barrel tile roofs are required in my neighborhood.

In addition, the heavy tiles hold up much better in high winds. Also, the installation methods have been improved to try to better withstand high winds of huricanes.

No, there will be a "Type R" sticker put on each roof tile.
