The reason it is easier to learn a different langauge at a younger age is because your brain doesn't automatically think in English. Its hard to explain. Once your in high school, say you take a spanish class. You learn the word "comer" which means to eat. Well, since you're in high school and your brain is programmed in English now, when you hear the word comer, you associate it with the english word eat. If you were to learn that word at a younger age, you would hear the word comer and just associate it with eating, not the english word.
Make any sense?
ya, makes sense.
I took two years of spanish, got A's in spanish II...yet all i know is that pescada means fish...well i think it does...
pescado... means dead fish.. cause live fish are holy in mexico i think? at least thats what our spanish teacher told us.. im in spanish two and my grades are goin down.. im hopin to pull a low B on my last report card in there... but i doubt it happens now..

just take over canada and mexico. make the offical languages english, french, and spanish. problem solved.
You can't invade Canada...we'll be waiting at the border with our 4 tanks and 7 military helicopters...you won't believe our superior defensive abilities. Our pilots are trained to aim their aircraft at enemy targets when they're falling due to engine failure from the sky. Besides...it'll be pretty pricey to buy snow tires for all of those American military vehicles!
And besides, Canada has two official National languages, french and english and everyone gets along just fine...except for the french who only want to separate from the rest of the country.
only 4 tanks? and only 7 military helicopters?? pshhh thats child play.......that'll stop alot ha right

I think if the ELA were put into law it would be one of the best things this crazy senate has done. I wrote a research paper on this topic for Sociology and from what I learned there would only be benefits and the only valid arguement against it is "Freedom of Speech". However, here is an interesting thing doesn't freedom of speech sorta kinda only apply to American citizens, so a lot of the Way Far South Imports would have to learn it to be a citizen! Hell Yeah, now i wouldn't dread getting behind a roofing truck in the drive thru!!!!!!!
the thing is, yes they would be forced to learn English to be a citizen, but they all ready are forced to learn it to be a citizen as far as I'm aware. making our official language English is not going to stop the problem of people not speaking English one bit. That roofing truck is probably not filled by citizens or legal immigrants so how is this going to solve anything. What would making English an official language actually do? companies will keep asking English or Spanish on the phone, ATM, etc. the only argument i have heard is that people will not be able to vote if they can not read English which i believe will not hold water.
everyone is entitled to opinions, all I know is that they have a hard a$$ time ordering things through a drive thru when they normally have to point at the picture inside...I work at a western union agency and almost all of them do not know English and often times it's funny to see what their shirts say, the one yesterday was wearing a purple shirt with pink glitter script that said "Dancing Queen" maybe that means something to him personally, I don't know...but I know most 20ish year old men would not wear that. The main reason I support I think is just b/c I like drama I guess, and this topic sure seems to fire both sides up. It is something that does need to be addressed though, language is one of the most important aspects of culture.
even though i support making English our official language, do we lose our culture by banning aspects of other cultures. our culture is really based off many many cultures. only in that, do we have a culture.

True, but how can we come together to be one culture if we can't understand **** anyone is saying?

but you're not one culture. If anything the US is a culture of cultures. And if communication or understanding what others are saying was a problem people wouldn't travel to diverse regions of the world and different nations with different languages wouldn't communicate economically...but that's not the case. People overcome language barriers everyday throughout the world, so why not within your country?
PS...you need to lighten up man...I was joking before about the 7 tanks and 4 helicopters. We really have 15 tanks and 9 helicopters...UNSTOPABLE!
the only thing i can think of is that government stuff will be only in english. you wont be able to stop people like banks from asking english or spanish because of freedom of speech
Haven’t done anything on the Camaro, but put LEDs on my truck headlights . And my oil pressure sensor went out on the truck so going to fix that this...
