Re: Pulled over by a plain clothes cop

You don't have to stop if you put on your flashers to indicate you know they are there. You can drive to another area that you feel more comfortable in or you can call 911 and have them verify that it is a cop. Will it piss off the cop? Maybe, but if you really don't feel comfortable it's worth it.

It's not like anyone who wants to put sirens and lights on their car can't do it.

if you dont pull over, and its a cop, they are going to be extremely pissed, you are better off pulling over and calling when you are pulled over, if it is a cop you are much less likely to get the ticket if you dont piss the cop off by practically ignoring his warning to get the hell over. you people say these things, but i guarantee if you were in their shoes you would have pulled your *** over too and not done ****.

It is easy to judge that now, but after working 13 hours and being put on the spot, I was not thinking 100% clearly. It's easy to sit here now and say I could/should/would have, but in the situation I was like "oh f---, what's the law here?". Had he not waited for a well-lit fire station, I probably would have kept driving.

I witness a shoot out a couple of years ago. I saw a number uniform cops and civilian clothed cops all over the place. They did have their badges on their belt. Some have them hanging like a necklace.

They sort of reminded me of Lethal Weapon. They weren't even driving Crown Vic.

oooh, oooh, I know this answer.

Yes, yes you have to pull over, and YES, they can give you tickets/arrest you.

I've been pulled over twice like this, and once it was in a verrrrrrrrrry shady area. I just drove until I came to a Publix (supermarket with insanely bright lights), and parked under the lights. He came to my car and looked legit. I asked for his badge and he showed me one. If he hadn't, I would've just hauled *** away and called 911.

But yes, it happens, and yes, they can **** you over.

Re: Pulled over by a plain clothes cop

I was always under the impression that you could be pulled over by an unmarked car, however an officer had to be in full uniform to actually issue you a ticket.

Re: Pulled over by a plain clothes cop

Does anyone think there's a law that says that policeman has to be in a uniform or a marked car to enforce the law? It's all just local police policies.

On the other hand, they know that bad guys impersonate cops. Never had this happen to me but if it did, here's one possibility.

Put on your flashers and and wave out the window to let them know you've seen them and are acknowledging them. Maybe point forward. Drive well under the limit to a public area and stop.

Here's an actual police website about this:

                http://www.co.ho.md.us/police/docs/t...markedcars.pdf

Note the deal about stopping immediately if you've verified that they are police via mobile phone. They know you did this and driving on at that point would be viewed as a problem.

That was another issue I had. The nearest public place was the mobil I pulled out of a few miles back. So I would have had to turn around which I was thinking he may to to block me then. That would just get messy.

                  The link does not work.

A friend of mine is a cop in CT, I just have not found the time to call him and ask.

then what you saw wasnt wig wags...... wig wags are the headlights of the car wig wagging back and forth... heres an example

and heres and install i did on a tahoe, he also set off his car alarm at the same time so that there would be a "siren" and the hazzards would flash

Re: Pulled over by a plain clothes cop

a cop , on duty or not, u have to mind him, but you do not have to mind any police officer or anyone of the law untill he or she has identfied themself either verbally or by badge. The badges on the side of a police car and or lights and sirens count since they are only legal for police officers to use and not for common citizens....

what i was told by a cop is they have to be in uniform if they are to pull you over with an unmarked car, however if it is a marked car, then they can be in plain clothes

                          We have a terminology issue.

What he had were red lights in the grill wig wagging back in forth. I have heard my brother-in-law (a deputy sheriff) refer to these as wig-wags as well (he installed them on his personal car). Call them what you want, I call them wig-wags.

There are 50 different states so there are 50 different laws about it. To know for sure for your state you will be better off checking your local laws than listening to joe bob on the forums who doesn't live in the same jurisdiction.
