  • Camaro, poor man's Corvette

I was at the exhuast shop this weekend to buy filter cleaner for my bird. There's this guy that's probably in his early 60's with an LT1 convertible getting his muffler done.

The owner of the shop told him how they installed a full exhaust set up on my car, including the catalytic converter and asked the guy if he wanted a full exhaust done to his car. He was giving him a discount but he turned it down.

After his muffler was done, I told him that his Vette sounded really good. He said to me, "So you own that Camaro huh. You know that's a poor man's Corvette. If you want I'll sell you my other Corvette (1990 convertible)."

I said no ofcourse and just laughed to myself. Other than saying "a poor man's Corvette," he called my Firebird, Camaro.

If he found out that I have a V6, he would have probably said "a poor man's V8." :D

Should have told him that was your beater and your brand new Z06 is at home in the garage... :D

Wonder how he would have felt about his C4 then...

Aww.. This I love because I have another feeling on the matter..

I like to call the Corvette an old mans Camaro/Firebird... It handles too solid, and holds to the ground too well, for those old guys who don't like the loose, fast, uncontrolable feeling. Hm maybe thats why the F-body race chassis is so popular and they ohh ya don't make a Corvette one..

I'm not slamming on Vettes here by any means, but its a little joke I like to say, especially being my old Iroc ate my friends dad's '97 Vette for lunch, and his Z-28 raped my Iroc and his Vette.

                Shoulda just been like,

"Sh*t... I thought I had to be middle aged to over the hill and balding to own a vette?" - and look all puzzled.

i thought f-bods went just as fast, carried ~twice the people, cheaper to insure, and cost 1/2 as much the "holier than thou" pompous vette. and I'm not talking chevvette, although one can use that for fodder.

its kind of depressing that although your car is a V6, that vette unless it had mods wouldnt beat you very badly. specailly if your a 5 speed. those LT1 vettes are by far the ugliest out of all of them, not to mention that they arent exactly the fastest either!

personally am a rather big fan of the 70's vette.

The guys across the street both own corvettes and both of them turn their noses up at me all the time because I actually drive my car, theirs are garage kept and out maybe 200 miles a year. They ask how's that beater runnin'.....I asked the one the other day how it felt to know what temp. the water in the toilet bowl is when he sits down. That shut him up. Old snobby people and their vettes, I would say about the same level as a ricer. Don't get me wrong vettes are great just some of the drivers sure aren't. AND I'M PROUD TO SAY I'M POOR if that's what owning a Fbody means.
