Mexico v. Portugal? Pffffft, whatev, next week's Argentina vs. Netherlands match is the one for all the marbles. Thats the world cup final right there.
I missed the game because I had to work but I ended up taping it. I was sitting at home Sat. night alone yelling at the tv. After Beasley scored I went nutts!! My voice started to hurt because I was so excited then they called it back because of offsides. Then at the 85 minute it stopped recording so I was like, NOOOOOO... so I clicked of sports center and saw that it was a tie. PHEW!! Awesome game.
de rossi did a number on mcbride's eye, but it wasnt intentional. even the announcers said that when you go up for a header, you keep your arms up to protect yourself. Mcbride wasnt doing that, De Rossi was simply thrusting his arms to try to get up a bit higher, and happened to hit mcbride.
you may keep your arms out but you don't have to throw them back. the fact is he hit McBride because he threw his elbows, not because he was trying to jump higher. he was tryin keep McBride off the ball...sure...and he succeeded, but he pulled his arm up and around McBride then drilled him in the face by pulling backwards. bad foul, deserved a card imo.
but i would have to agree with some of the comments i've read though...the refs have been horrible! i hope the graders at the world cup get rid of the center ref from that USA game the foul called on Mastroeni was crap...he slid in and got ball...yellow card tops. bad calls both ways the entire game. and some of the other games have also had poor officiating as well.
anyone see the france vs. korea game? i can't believe they tied! and that france got jipped out of a goal too! Woon-Jae was behind the line when he "saved" that ball. all he saved was the ball fomr going into the back of the net...not crossing the goal line. horrible officiating that game as well. that game should have 2-1 France if not a shut-out.
anyone got predictions for the Final? i'm thinking Argentina vs. Brazil. Argentina is doing amazing and Brazil has yet to warm up.

That ref from the U.S.A. vs. Italy match was some Uruguayan who was apparently banned from world cup officiating in 94. Supposedly for "shady dealings", which basically means that hes crooked, and those dirty Itais probably were trying to have him fix the game.

But you're right, the cream certainly has risen to the top. Here are my predictions:
Germany > Argentina
Italy > Ukraine (how the hell did they get here???)
England > Portugal (cuz the ports got 6 million yellow cards and 2 reds in that last match)
Brazil > France (although i'd like to see france go through so i can rout against them in the semis :D)
So pretty much its going to be Germany and Brazil... AGAIN... hopefully not tho.
Oh and i'll miss those matches... stupid work :mad:

i think argentina will pull through...and i'm rooting for ukraine in their game. hoping for england to show up and win and of course the powerhouse brazil.

Italy advances to the FINALS!!! holy crap i never saw that one coming...but it does make sense considering they haven't been scored on the entire World Cup except by themselves in the USA match. anyone else see that Germany v. Italy game? AMAZING! shows what good ref'ing can lead to: great games.
