  • A letter to the CEOs of Best Buy and GE

I just e-mailed this to the CEO of Best Buy and GE. pardon the language and the rant.

    Dear Sirs,
Let me tell you a long short about what should have been a simple dryer purchase.

My wife and I purchased an electric GE dryer from Best Buy three weeks ago. The idiots at Best Buy put a gas dryer in my truck, and I did not realize until after my brother and I carried it up a flight of stairs. I drove an EXTRA hour and half to get the electric version. I will not even bring up the cost in gas this cost me.

This time I carried it up a flight of stairs by my damn self. Hooked it up. Two days later it starts making some god aweful noises. We call GE service. The serviceman tells me it is beyond repair and ordered us a new one. So far, he has been the only intelligent sign of life at either company.

A few days later we get an unintelligable phone message from a trucking company asking why we were not home to receive the new dryer. We never received a phone call about the delivery - why would we be home? Like you gentelmen, we work for a living - during the day. My wife spent 8 hours calling several GE 800 numbers until we finally reached the trucking company. We scheduled a delivery date for TODAY, June 9th.

TWICE this week, we received phone calls from the same trucking company asking why we were not home. They claimed to be knocking on our door. My wife stayed home from work today to receive the dryer. She just got off the phone with the trucking company. They now CANNOT find the dryer! Supposedly, it has been to my house three times, but now they cannot locate it! My wife just called me in complete hysterics. Is this how you like your customers' experiences to be?

For weeks we have been ****ED by both of your ****-*** companies. We want our ****ing money back so we can go to ****ing Sears and get a ****ing dryer. This **** has proceeded long enough. All we wanted was a ****ing dryer, but that is too ****ing hard for you ****ing morons to muster.

I am currently going through all of my mutual funds to make sure neither of your stocks are held. I urge everyone else to do the same. If you cannot sell a simple dryer, I have no faith in your stock.

I thought you gentelman should be kept in the loop as to how your respective companies continuously **** its customers. Please, for the love of god, give us a refund so we can go get a dryer. I do not want one that has been bouncing around a truck for weeks.

I have a GE dryer, from SEARS. That's a bad experience to be sure, sounds like a lot of it is the trucking company's fault, they probably have the wrong address or something. The problem is all the different companies coordinating to complete a single, simple task: delivering your dryer. Best Buy sucks on prices anyway. Hope you get your money back. :(

Way to make yourself sound like a moron. The letter might work if you had left out that one paragraph, but I wouldn't have much sympathy for you. At least wait until you got the thing replaced.

Do not confused anger for stupidity. I WANT them to understand I am outraged to the point of losing my composure. If you heard my wife crying on the phone, you would have lost your composure too.

To be sure, I will not see a dime. The best possible outcome is that the trucking company actually delivers the dryer to me. I want the CEOs to know how bad things are for their customers. Change comes from the top, not the bottom. These are not the first CEOs I have e-mailed. :naughty:

Crap, I realized I forgot to mention, that as a credit Best Buy "gave us" $50 by allowing us to keep the $50 rebate we got. As in, they gave us NOTHING, but said they did.

          CEO will never see it.

I hate best buy, there is honestly no reason to buy anything from that store. You do not need anything with exception of large appliances.

We got our stuff from Lowes and home depot, delievered and installed for free no issues. And it was cheaper then Worst Buy.

Let me try to make the point another way. If you want something from a company, it is more effective to ask in a way which gives them hope that they can keep you as a customer. If you vent, they write you off as a lost cause.

It's not that what you did was wrong. It's only that it's not the best way to get what you want from a company. And the anger just rolls off their back. They've heard it before and ignoring customers who are really angry is a necessary survival technique for them.

More effective is: "I am a long time customer of your company and hope to remain one. I have just had an unpleasant experience which needs action. [Non angry description of what happened] Could you please...." You don't have to mean any of it, of course.

We checked Lowes and Dome Hepot. Best Buy was cheapest at the time for the model my wife wanted.

As far as the CEOs, it depends. A friend received a response from a CEO before. I suspect some lacky goes through and only gives "important" stuff to the CEO. Other stuff gets pushed to to other managers. The head of product quality (that's a joke) from scAamco e-mailed me back. She wants me to call her.

E-mailing the CEO just bypasses customer service - which is a waste of time.

But I don't want anything except to vent to them! For sure, they will not give me my money back or compensate me in any way/shape/form. I also cc-ed this to my friends/family so they know not to deal w/ Worst Buy or GE.

But yes, typically, you play politics and play nice. That point is taken.

Wow that sucks!! You want to here something funny? I work for G.E. in louisville testing dryers, other appliances too. I'm not sticking up here but like someone else said, it sounds like its the trucking companys fault and the other one was best buys fault. I'd be pissed that a brand new item did not work and had to call a billion 800 numbers like you did but what do other companys have you do if something breaks? call a billion 800 numbers. lol. I do like sears though!! I hope your next dryer last forever. I got an old as dirt maytag at home. Just keeps on goin. I'd buy a G.E. (big discount) but if it ain't broke don't fix it is how I see things. Good luck with everything.

Besides the dryer being busted (which may not be GEs fault), the only thing GE did wrong was hire the trucking company. With that said, the CEO should know they are using crappy trucking companies.

No response yet. I will let you guys know if I get one. My wife just e-mailed them this:

                        Sirs,

Believe it or not, my husband has downplayed my angst with your companies and this situation. I actually requested to be refunded the purchase price. The GE consumer affairs representative insulted me, by only offering a $25 stipend toward my laundry expense. What about all the time, effort, energy, loss of work and anguish I have suffered during the past month?

                         :(

Yeah, the last paragraph completely makes your letter worthless. Way to screw up any chance you have.

Raising hell and just *****ing are two completely different things.
