  • Rode in a Hatch.....

Now i know we all hate rice.... I must give respect where respect is do. My friend has always been into muscle cars and evens races his dads 800+horsepower monza at a race track.

Hes had a 97 camaro z28 lowered full borla exhaust, chip, intake, all the basics. I drove it and fell in love. Power was fricken insane in it. He recently sold it and started lookin for a new car. He pondered getting a new GTO and waiting for challenger. Well his friend told him about this hatchback for sale with supposedly 450 horsepower for 5500 bucks. He went and looked and kid gave him a ride.

He said the kid was really scared of the car he floored it in 2nd and quickly let off cause it broke into a spin so bad. My friend drove the car while owner (17 year old kid, parents gave him money for car to be built and he failed class so they forced him to sell car.) The kid was scared crapless. apparently he didnt know what the car could do. The car dynoed at 405 horsepower at crank and 388 at the wheels. Supposedly will run 6.80s in 8th.

I went for a ride in it tonight. Its a 93+ hatch i believe. Its fully hontec or somecrap meaning all computerized. Its a 1.8 acura motor swap with one hell of a turbo. Car looks stock outside except for rims. Stock exhaust cause cops are *** holes (will be changed to 3inch all the way back soon). Backseats removed. Just a 700 dollar racing seat for driver and a stock passenger seat. Boost guage and all that goodness.

Well to the point. We took off easy rolling about 40mph in 2nd gear. He floors it and car spins all the way through 2nd. half way through 3rd finally catched when he hits 4th we were running 90mph and up. By the end of 4th we were running 140ph with 5th gear to go but he let off and we didnt go through 5th. The sound is so insane with stock exhaust. All u hear is turbo and blowofff valve. Its sooo nice.

Needless to say i was very impressed. Definately fastest car ive ridden in. I was pinned back to the seat from start to finish.

His dad owns a shop and he works for his dad as his mechanic and he knows his way around cars. The car has a stock fuel rail. Hes expecting to have 600horses out of this little 1.8 motor byt the time hes done. Its insane!

I give that hatch some major respect! I would probably trade my camaro for it if i could.

Only foreign car I will own is a RX8 or Lexus of any kind, love those cars. Hondas can be sweet there are just too many POS ones around to show their potential

          Re: Rode in a Hatch.....

Probably the Hondata engine management system is what that 92+ hatchback is running. The older civics/CRXs are really nice cars to build up - lightweight, lots of swapability between Honda motors and transmissions, and dead reliable unless you go crazy with the motor.

How about a daily drivable "1.5 liter" supercharged Civic Si that made nearly 490hp and got 29mpg average...http://hotrod.com/featuredvehicles/22838/

And now in it's current Naturally Aspirated Form

The V6 camaro is a fun to drive car, but lacks lightness and quickness in handling from being nearly 1000 lbs heavier. My brothers '90 Integra RS that we've worked on will out-accelerate my Camaro from a stop till the top of second gear - gotta love a lightweight racing flywheel in a lightweight car. And when it comes to handling, even though the Integra is FWD and on 205/50-15 street tires (Hankook R-S2 Z212) - it will track in under power, stay tight on an inside line, and exit the corner faster than my Camaro on 275/40-17 Nitto NT-555RII R-compound tires. If you know how to setup a FWD Honda it will have no problems with understeer, and that's with the stock open differential. A 4th gen Camaro will never match the fun-to-drive handling that that integra gives... the Camaro is just too heavy with a suspension that needs improvement.

Cost really is a factor too.
Total put into the Camaro (including purchase price): $13,000
Total put into the Integra (including purchase price): $3,300

What does the extra $9,700 get me with the Camaro? Better top end speed (past 1/8th mile and up) and better braking potential ... that's it performance wise.

Also looks better with rims and a nice wax job when cruising the strip at dusk. gets the attention of the opposite sex.

To me a lowered camero on Corvette rims and a Dark Blue paint job is where it's at.

True, I really do like the 4th generation Camaro's shape. A clean, stock bodied second generation hatchback Integra is not "normal passenger car" in the looks department either though (I like it much better than the quad circle headlight and fatter body third generation).

It also gets you the ability to do a nice Right wheel drive burnout for a long ****ing time

yea, i rember when i was liek 5 years younger i liked honda del sol's becasue they looked small and fast but now i dont think i would ever want even if you could get it to have a respectable amount of power. i mean there are two ways too look at it.

                        A. the person did a lot of work and tweeking and moeny spending to make a specific car they way ahe wanted it.

                        B. you just spent a lot of moeny and time to make a slow car fast.

because bottomline you can make any car fast for the right price.

                        just my 2 cents.

p.s there are some foreign cars like, basically anything german and soem japanese like g35/350z is350 sti/evo but thats it.
